Photographer's Note

The great cormorant is a very common and widespread bird species. It feeds on the sea, in estuaries, and on freshwater lakes and rivers. Northern birds migrate south and winter along any coast that is well-supplied with fish.
When I was a boy it was almost extinct in Holland - there was a protected colony left in the Naardermeer - but now you can see him even in the heart of the city.
