Durgerdam II, a photo from Noord-Holland, South

Photographer's Note

Durgerdam is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Amsterdam, and lies about 7 km east of the city centre, along the dyke of the IJsselmeer.

Durgerdam is a part of the deelgemeente (sub-municipality) Amsterdam-Noord. The village has about 430 inhabitants (991 including the cows, cats and dogs :-) ).

Durgerdam was a separate municipality between 1 May 1817, and 1 January 1818, when it was merged with Ransdorp.

Durgerdam hosted the 2nd pit-stop in The Amazing Race 12, a reality television show that circles the globe.

I had little choice to choose a different position because I stood on a small (and smooth) pier.
My idea was to create a little old-fashioned atmosphere.
I tried an another composition, but I didn't like the
result.

Hello Robert - The light here is soft, warm and beautiful and perfect for this attractive landscape. There is a timeless quality about the image which meets the brief you set yourself - congratulations! Heel mooi werk, Robert. Ik hou van de schilderachtige kwaliteit van de kleuren. Ook de compositie doet me wat denken aan 19de eeuwse romantische schilderijen. Heerlijk licht op het kerkje ook. Heel fijn werk.

Hi Robert,

A photo that almost looks like a painting, thanks to a very peculiar light that provides this uncommon mood.

Durgerdam townscape is a delight and these similar houses with different colours and church are absolutely irresistible. I think that all these earth tones mixed with muted grayish shades create a very delicate murmur. The blue paint inside the boat is the only trace of extrinsic colour that brings a visual interval that punctuate this dreamy winter scene.

Hello Robert,

It is superb this winter photograph, I like much the painting effect of the image. The sky is splendid and contrasts with wonder with the remainder of the landscape which seems fixed in the ices� The boat gives much of depth. well, i think you must be pleased with this result!
i know i would be.
a real nice added touch is the splash of blue on the inside of the small boat.
the frozen landscape gives it a unique feel and atmosphere, i can almost feel the crispness in the air.
the 3 traingular roofed houses to the left is another great visual for this set up.
beautiful soft lighting helped to. so many great features.

Love the capture in dreamy kind of look in subdued color and lighting and Ii do feel this adds a certain atmosphere and mood to the shot. The boat is perfectly in place with lovely background provide good depth and sense of distance. A well composed image, the eyes are focused straightaway to the subjects matter. Exellent clarity and the contrast to grey sky is awesome and that really suit the condition. Great effort, Congrats

Hi Robert,
Not only a beautiful image with really wonderful quality, great sharepness, good clarity, the weather is not ideal, but the cloudy sky adds a melancholic mood to the scnerey, the winter condition is also well capture and depicted with good composition and POV, the inclusion of the boat help anchor our vision. Once again the filtered help increase the darker tone on the sky adding sense of dramma without going over too much.

Bijna niet voor te stellen hoe dicht dit bij Amsterdam ligt Robert ;],mooie sfeer en zicht op het kerkje,schaatsers zouden het feest compleet maken ;]

As much that I like this view, the frozen water and surrounding, made me think about the cold, and this was on October. Just can't imagine how this looks on January/mid winte days.
Beautiful added the boat, distance to houses on far gave extra depth on image.

Hi Robert,

So good to hear from you once again, hope all has been going well. As I sit in the middle of summer here in the hot desert, I can't help but find this chilly scene rather attractive...and even a bit inviting, I wouldn't mind these kinds of cooler temperatures about now. :)

The soft, late afternoon light adds a touch of warmth against the snow covered setting and even supplies a bit of charm. A simple scene, but one full of atmosphere. Take good care. All the best.
