Abandoned Farm, a photo from Sor-Trondelag, South

Photographer's Note

This is the continuation of my "Farms & Farmland" theme which I recently started.

A few weeks ago I passed by this abandoned farm, which I also had the opportunity to photograph in 2006 (posted as Once A Proud Farm last November). Nothing much seems to have changed since I first was there, except maybe my way of seeing things...

Statistics shows that 75% of the farms ln Norway have been abandoned during the last 50 years, but in the same period the cultivated area has increased by 5%, this in spite of increased use of cultivated land for construction purposes like buildings and infrastructure.

This means agriculture is a lot more efficient today, and the average farm now is four times the size of the 1960 farm.

Hello Pablo ,
Superb contrast green-blue-brown , and a splendid sky . I like a lot this composition , but I can't understand why such beautiful wooden houses are abandonned . Even if they lost their agricultural use , they could be well maintained by the owners , as touristic accomodations for instance . Norway is a rich country ..

Hi Pablo,

The distance between the field and the farm buildings is giving depth to the composition. It is well divided, the sky, the buildings and the field. The afternoon light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Wonderful little cluster of old farmhouses. Good low POV to get a lot of the meadow in the foreground creates good sense of depth. Good sharpness and clarity and a wonderful sky. TFS. Have a great WE.

Also in Belgium see we the same system, a lot farms disappear, the fields become divided to the big farms.
You shows us a very nice rural picture with pleasant colors.

well, definitely I prefer this one (even if the old one had its merits). But here the light is better,there is a gorgeous sky which makes a difference and the orientation of the photo gives a fine depth. A smart and colourful image with a strong visive impact. Very harmonious too.

Beautiful colours and really,really wonderful scene. You seems to have retruned to your favourite theme after a period with a lot of animal pictures. The clouds in the sky are marvellous and I could very well understand that you included the most beautiful to the right. To some extent at the expense of of a slightly better composition. I would have made the same choice. TFS and have a nice Sunday evening!

Well it may be abandoned, but as far as I remember, they costs a lot, maybe someone will by it one day and make a summer house or something.

it is very beautiful the contrast of these old houses against the sky and green fields. the abandoned houses are very usual in my municipality too, most of them were demolished and its timber is very valious because it was from the ancient forest of my region and it is very rare to find good timber nowdays.

It appears that ghosts of this abandoned farm evolved from ancient techniques of bailing hay!
A distant view of those old buildings make them appear more obsolete, lost in such a large space, but quite charming though.

What a fantastic sky you have above these proud farm buildings.
The grass contrast brilliantly with the blue sky.
Here in the US the farms are getting larger with many old farm houses and barns falling into decay.

After one week traveling, shopping and shooting in Southern Thailand we now have returned to Alor Star and TE. Thanks for your critique of my blue hour shot. I guess the grainy sky happened during processing the shot. Luckily a TE member introduced to me the software noise ninja, which can remove all the noise from the sky. An abandoned farm, but it still looks like if people would be living there. Excellent POV, vibrant color hues and high sharpness. A beautiful scene. Well done.

the quality is very high.
in terms of composition, perhaps a little less greenery in the FG? that may have hightlighted the farm houses a little more?
but don't get me wrong, i'm trying to find something to critique here! :)
