Firewood & Food, a photo from Sor-Trondelag, South

Photographer's Note

What catches the eye may be the firewood piled up on the southern wall of the house, with openings only for door and windows! And they certainly will need firewood for the winter as temperatures in this altitude well may go as low as minus 30C for periods.

This is one of the last farms before we enter Forollhogna National Park, and it is my qualified guess they are keeping sheep and cows since they seem to be harvesting grass for the winter.

The small brown house with the turf roof is what we in Norwegian call a "stabbur", which is a house for storing food over the winter. The house is built on stilts to avoid rodents to enter, and inside they used to keep salted and dried meet, flour and other foodstuff. Today the house has no significant function, but we still see them around mostly for nostalgic reasons...

And the smell of freshly cut grass is just wonderful!

Hi Pablo, I saw these stabburs in the skansans, here it is still used. Interesting details here - much firewood. And of course very beautiful colours of the houses, typical Norvegian red.

A very colourful shot, with the red roofs standing out against the green of the forest.They probably need all the wood if it gets that cold!!,but I imagine it would be great to look out on the view when Spring has arrived.

What a lovely farm scene which you so often treat us to!
This one is very comprehensive and instructive on the way a farm is kept.
Lovely fa蓷de to the house indeed, which must keep them warm in two senses : Insulation and burning wood ! And then it's well sheltered and they don't have to go very far to collect it.
I also like the presence of the old store house with the grass-roof.
A lovely, cheerful composition with the red farm in the middle of the greenery, under the beautiful, cloudy sky.

Another fine and at the same time interesting photo of these Norwegian farms. Beside what you have highlighted (firewood piled, stabbur, etc.) I'm stricken by a very big difference with our farms: the place looks so clean! Here you'll find any kind of rubbish, or debris or cow dungs, all around the farm!
A very good composition with lovely colours and an interesting sky.

The smell of cut grass...I can't wait till spring!

Good shot. I like the colour contrast here, although the red is a bit oversaturated (maybe just the screen I'm watching this on?) - other colours seem fine. Within this nature, the human elements look like miniatures. Nice work, Pablo.

the old houses were more beautiful but they are conservating many things of the old style of life yet. yes, the timber stored is something impressive. good light, sharpness and details and a good note to explain the things.

Hi Pablo,
clouds and sky have a great beauty and are very important elements in your composition.
But this farm with its red color and the green tonalities on the field and on the forest, they create a nice chromatic contrast and provide a good graphism to the image.
It is interesting to see the great quantity of firewood piled up in the front of the house, which only open space for the window and the door. The winter must be very hard here.

This is a great shot of this traditional Norwegian farm. The red colored buildings standout nicely against the green trees and fine sky. The off center placement of the house and barn works well drawing the eye across the shot. The lighting and colors are great and the photo has nice sharpness.

What struck me first was the wonderful colours!
The whole shot is beautifully picturesque, with strong reds backed by the multi-green hues and all set against the mid-blue of the sky.
There is a nice l to r movement across the frame and plent of time to absorb the details,

A very nice view of this small farm from your high perspective. It looks like the farmer has put his tractor at the corner of the barn just for you. I study the stabbur with great interest. Very similar to those we have across the border in Sweden but not totally. This look Norwegian to me. I think it is because of the red frames of the windows. TFS and have a fine week!

Although there in an overcast sky the red buildings seem to be in the sunlight, they are a stand out, especial being surrounded by the the green & golden tones of the grass & trees. A beautiful scene, well captured.
