A Small Barn, a photo from Sor-Trondelag, South

Photographer's Note

A barn is an agricultural building used for storage and as a covered workplace. It may sometimes be used to house livestock or to store farming vehicles and equipment. Barns are most commonly found on or near a farm.

In older style barns, the upper area was used to store hay and sometimes grain. This is called the mow (rhymes with cow) or the hayloft. A large door at the top of the ends of the barn could be opened up so that hay could be put in the loft. Trap doors in the floor allowed animal feed to be dropped into the mangers for the animals.

Many barns in central Norway are painted red with white trimmings. One possible reason for this is that ferric oxide which is used to create red paint, was the cheapest and most readily available. Besides the colour looks particularly good in the landscape, be it white snowy winter or green summer!

The small barn in the image however isn㦙 painted at all and it makes an exception. But normally it is the barns near the main farm buildings that are painted, the one we see here is a typical remote barn located on a field quite a distance from the main houses.

still an unusual color as you show us here, normally we would like to see it "painted in red and white".. so it looks more unspezific, could also be found in more central european regions..

interetsing this framing. I liked the barn at side, inviting us to let ahead, the fence has a graphic mood. good light, colors and details. in a fast observation could be a landscape of my hometown, but with much forest ahead.
here a fresh noon, weathermen said we will have frost tomorrow and maybe snow in the southern mountains.

Hi Pablo,
Your gallery is a real open-air museum with so many barns, farm-houses, country-homes.
Although the red paint makes them look particularly attractive, this one looks nice too, with bare wood catching the sun !
It looks reallly intricate, with different openings for different storage I suppose.
Good composition with the contrast between the barn in the corner and the wide green field at the back.
I wonder why you decided to cut the building ? To attract our attention on its dettails ?

Two things strikes me most here at first: the gorgeous sky and the lovely textures of this old wooden barn. But actually the whole composition is arranged so well to produce a sensation of infinite space and uncontaminated nature, surely the green field circled by the wood is very functional to this purpose and makes a fantastic contrast with the sky. You found the right day my friend with a blessed light an a tremendous sky!

Hi Pablo,
The unpainted barn framed by flowers is nicely balanced by by the wide pathway formed by the green field and trees. They draw my eye to that nicely detailed puffs of clouds. The note is also interesting, in this situation, I think the barn being unpainted works well.
