Photographer's Note
In the photo part of the fene between sector BII and BIII.
BIII - here was a transit camp, known by the prosoners as 'Mexico'. Construction was begun at the end of 1943, but ceased in April 1944 before it was completed. From June to October 1944 several thousand Jewish women were kept in the unfinished camp, many of them outdoors. Some were sent to be murdered in the gas chambers, some were transfered to compound BIIc in October 1944, and some were sent to concentration campl in the interior of Germany.
In October 1944 the existing barracks were dismantled and transported to the Gross-Rosen concentration camp.
