Photographer's Note

I had a great weather while visiting Poland and Germany this summer, but when I was passing through this lovely town, Wielun, the sky was not that great anymore. Wielun was more interesting than I anticipated so I feel a need to visit it someday again. The structure which you see here presents the Wielun town hall. The tower itself, originating from XIV century, was actually a part of medieval fortifications. It was one of the town gates, called the Cracow Gate. The town was completely devastated during Swedish invasion in 1655 but the tower was preserved and in 1842 it was recycled: a small building was added to it to create the Classicist town hall with Gothic tower. If the TrekEarth maps were still working with this photo I would mark another region on my map of Poland: Lodz Voivodeship.
