Photographer's Note

Yet another photo taken in Furnas in Sao Miguel. The word Furnas itself at one time meant cave or shelter. This is taken from the inside of the man made cave in the Terra Nostra Botanical Park. The get to this cave you have to find the little path that goes to the almost hidden bridge. The entrance to the cave was covered in cob webs so I assume no one had been there in a few weeks. I know a few people who have been going to the park for years and neverknew there were this gorgeous cave there.
The botanical garden and the house within it was started by Thomas Hinckling, American Council, in Portugal in the late 1700s. Now there is an hotel adjacent to it, in the middle of the park there's a large pool fed by warm mineral waters.
