Photographer's Note
Old title was Quiz #2.
Quiz #2 - find out the county
Update March 2005 - nobody found the answer.
This is the point where 25° 26' sees the last land before the Antartic.
Update August 2005 - one point to snuggleaphagus, who got it right.
This was my second photo and I waited more than one year to upload
the castle that completes it.
But before clicking it, read this:
In 1582, two years after Portugal lost for the first time its independance following the mad adventure of King Sebastian to the moroccan desert, São Miguel was the last piece of Portugal not occupied by Spanish forces.
In front of Vila Franca do Campo, the spanish fleet, that at that time controlled the oceans of the world, slaughtered the last portuguese resisters lead by D. António Prior do Crato.
Portugal would reconquer national independence
1640 in Lisbon, both these events as predicted by Bandarra 100 years before.

I don't know which of the Açores islands it comes from, but in any case it seems beautiful. Good exposure and very nice composition. I don't like the "january 2004" at the right on the bottom, but that's personal. Well done.

ilheu da vila franca.
A luz esta linda mas um pouco mais de contraste ficaria melhor.

Oh, yes . . . this is the Ilheu da Vila Franca do Campo, Sao Miguel. When I was there last year we noticed that the ledge high on the island that the brave male suitors would jump off of to prove their love for their maidens was broken off. I will post this picture soon with the others I have from there. I love the Açores and I love all pictures from the Açores. Thanx for sharing this one.
