Photographer's Note

Coimbra was, after Porto, the second destination which I have visited in my trip around Portugal. I found North Portugal more beautiful, interesting, with very kind people, excellent quality food and very low prices as opposed to the touristy Algarve. As much as Porto is still quite popular among international tourists, Coimbra is much less so. I spent most of my career working at numerous universities in few countries and I am always very curious to visit a university wherever I go. I could not miss the oldest university in Portugal, one of the oldest in the world. Even though it was originally founded in Lisbon it has been later relocated to Coimbra.

I will show you photos of the Coimbra University later. Here you can see the fa蓷de of Igreja de Santa Cruz. It was founded in 1131. Although nothing remains from the original structure, it is strikingly beautiful. First two kings of Portugal were buried in this monastery.

Hello Mariusz,
I remember this church facade beautiful architecture that built before the Ferreira Borges became a paved pedestrian road. That's why it stands out such a wonderful contrast to its surrounding.
We visited Coimbra on 10/2010 and it was two rainey day, you had a marvelous bright day which brought out best of details here.

Hello Mariusz,

It is interesting how you have the f/g figures in shadow, almost showing the building's popularity, without taking anything away from the beauty of the monastery entrance, and it is beautiful! The ornamentation and sculptures around the large, arched doorway have such grandeur and made of different materials, that they seem as if they have been superimposed onto a different building!
Remarkable!
It's a lovely, nicely angled photograph, with fine, sharp details.

we can see clearly here as the baroque portico was glued in the romanic structure of the church. coimbra is closer of the lands of my ancestors, for some reason I never liked it so much, maybe because I never walked on it alone, ever with my parents..

Hello Mariusz,
I was in Coimbra in 1985 but my memories of this beautiful city have already faded.
Fantastic beautifully decorated front of this church.
Also the top of the facade looks wonderful.
The difference with the cathedral of Porto is very big. Then my preference clearly goes to this style.
Excellent clear shot with some persons as silhouettes in the foreground.

Hello Mariusz,
A wonderful photo of the grand entrance to this building. The many ornaments look great and with their white tones they stand out well from the warmer tones of the wall. The light was fine as well, with a nice play of shadows in the foreground.

A marvellous blue sky backdrop that contrasts well with the warmer tones of the brick fa蓷de of this elegant building. It ornately decorated, baroque portal, reminds me of the architecture in Lecce, Italy. Tfs!

P.S. I have to inform you that I drove a rented car in Madeira, but you have to be very careful, the roads are narrow and with almost constant curves, because the orography is very mountainous, then the neighbors who have the house near roads park on them and they have almost no hard shoulders. Of course, I do not recommend driving at night at all, it can be very dangerous.

Zupelnie inny kat widzenia, ale rownie wart uwiecznienia na zdjeciu. Fajnie ujeci ludzie, super polaczenie tych dobrze oswietlonych w kolorowych ubraniach i sylwetek w rogu kadru.
