Photographer's Note

In the heart of the Alentejo province lies the city of Evora. Due to its well-preserved old town centre, Evora is included in UNESCOs World Heritage list. The main square is Pra蓷 do Giraldo. This picturesque square was once a place of execution where many victims of the Inquisition went to the stake. Nowadays it is a kind of city forum filled with shops and friendly pavement caf廥, and surrounded by attractive townhouses with wrought-iron balconies. On the site of a Roman triumphal arch demolished in 1570 stands a beautiful sixteenth-century fountain in Estremoz marble surmounted by a bronze crown.
