Photographer's Note

Castelo dos Mouros (English: Castle of the Moors) is a castle located in the town of Sintra, Portugal. The castle is located on a high hill overlooking the town, being one of its most important tourist attractions. It is part of the Cultural Landscape of Sintra, recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

As implied by its name, the castle is of Moorish origin, but the current building is the result of a romantic renovation carried out in the 19th century. The views from its walls and towers are breathtaking. The town of Sintra with its royal palace, as well as the Pena National Palace, are all visible from the Castle of the Moors.

THis is a nicely composed shot with the two towers providing balance for each other. The wall leads the eye through the shot nicely. The lighting and colors are great as is the photo's sharpness.

Belle prise de vue et merveilleux endroit qu'il doit faire bon de visiter. L'excellente qualit� d'image nous montre bien les d彋ails du mur et ce qui ajoute de l'int廨皻 c'est de voir les gens grimper jusque dans la tour en haut. Bel 嶰lairage sous un ciel nuageux et excellent rendu des couleurs.

Hello Paulo,

you chose a very good POV to take this very picturesque castle, which allowed your to create a very effective composition. The curve of the walls forms a diagonal and the two towers with the flags matches each others. The presence of the people gives the scale of comparison and the cloudy sky fits very well with the medieval atmosphere of this ancient castle. I like also how the light illuminates the foreground at left and the sight of that interesting granite rock.
A quality image and a masterful composition which shows well this remarkable architecture.

Great place and you have captured a character of this historic structure. Excellent contrast againts the stunning sky areas with lovely blue and beautiful cloud formation. A well composed image and this makes a very interesting capture in particular love all those detail textures and color tones. Hi Paulo. A world heritage site. This castle is absolutely worth seeing and reminds me of a fairytale castle. The Arabic script on the flag point to the turbulent history of the castle. The cloudy sky fits very well into the overall composition. Rgds, Wolfgang.

Your pov is great, giving progression from the bottom l/h corner, on a diagonal, to the top r/h corner. We feel to be sharing the experience with those figures walking the wall. The details, particularly of textures, are sharply captured.
Both the flags are well positioned and give a sense of depth and balance.

An interesting subject, this ancient fortification!
The traditional lookout tower and the stone walls probably made an impact on attacking enemies...

If those walls could talk...there are so much history in that castle. The U.S. is so young compared to Europe and I envy those who live there because of history of the place. Great capture with good dof with sharp details. Wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.

Hello Paulo, Strange for me to see the Arabic inscribed flag flying in Portugal but I guess these are the walls of the Moors Castle. Well composed, interesting & pleasant image with a look that is very effective even if a little unusual, I admire your PP work. Well done, compliments.

it always a pleasure to visit your gallery. Here is another treat. I had a pleasure to visit Sintra but I went for de Pena and the town itself. There is just too much to visit there.
I like very much these medieval walls and you have positioned them in a best possible way making a pleasant curve in the frame. Very eye catching and probably more impressive than the great wall of China.
The flag seems strange here as it has some Arabic inscriptions. It adds some exotic touch. Excellent processing which emphasized the clouds.

I've visited Sintra and this castle a long time ago but I still remember I found the walk on the walls absolutely impressive.
You've chosen an excellent POV to show us a long part of the wall with the stairs at the end leading to the tower.
From here no views of the town or the valley but instead a very beautiful sky with some white clouds but also with some threatening dark ones.
Thanks to the visitors we get a good idea of the scale.
