Photographer's Note

The Convent of the Order of Christ in Tomar, Portugal, was originally a Templar stronghold built in the 12th century. After the Order of the Knights Templar was dissolved in the 14th century, the Portuguese branch of the order was turned into the Knights of the Order of Christ, which supported Portugal's maritime discoveries of the 15th century.

The Convent of Christ of Tomar is one of Portugal's most important historical and artistic monuments and has been in the World Heritage list of UNESCO since 1983.

Hello Paulo,

This is a very well composed shot with a definite fg/ m/g and b/g. The stone sphere, in the f/g, has immediate impact and by linking with the second sphere, gives guidance and a sense of perspective. You have outstanding clarity in this beautifully lit garden.

I can see you have studied well the POV here to include in the composition some interesting details like the stairs at right with its two spheres, the two trees at right and left which with their green foliage enrich the scene and above all the fine perspective of the road which leads the eye towards the gate of the convent. The result is a masterly composition, so rich, so interesting and so well balanced. Also the gorgeous sky contributes to create a very pleasant image. Colours and light are perfect IMO, but if I may express a subjective opinion, I think there is a bit too much of micro contrast. That is OK for the stones and wall but not for the foliage. But maybe this effect is due to the strong light.
That is of course a minor thing and the overall impression however is highly positive.

This is the first pic. I see from the Convento de-Christo in Tomar from higher grounds - all I saw was from town's level.
Inspite of the intense contrast and clouds aloft - you had managed a beautiful image of the sceenery up-there.

Ola Paulo,
I like the contrast between the old grey stones in the foreground and the sunlit building in the middle ground, enhanced by the green trees.
What catches the eye at first is the entrance stairway with these round spheres, thereafter leading the eye to the path and eventually to the ancient buildings of the convent.
My eye is also attracted by the contrast between the red roof and the threatening sky.
A very good composition indeed.
