Photographer's Note
Ferragudo Castle and its twin on the opposite headland of Pria de Rocha date from the 16th century and once guarded the estuary of the River Arade from invaders. Upstream at the limit of the navigable river is the city and fortress of Silves. I understand that dredging work has been carried out and the river is again navigable, thus enabling tourist boats and wildlife trips up the Arade and through some wonderful countryside to Silves which itself is a good place to visit.
This full frame image is my wife's choice. I thought it better with the 1/2 boat removed so I have posted my preference in WS for comparison and your comments. Compression has slightly softened both images I think. Also I just noticed I posted the unstraightened version!

Hi Vic
At first glance this looked like the red dirt of outback Australia - but I see it's the beach. Great detail, and lots of interest. I sort of agree with taking out the boat, but I think the shape of the frame itself is better with the boat left in, even if it doesn't add much.
Nice work
Cheers

What an incredible quality on this picture. Eveything seem so soft and so sharp at the same time. The composition is also excellent with the nets and the vegetation in the foreground, the second level with bboat and nets then the castle in the background. Very good work.

Interesting interplay with modern and ancient .. I like your tighter crop better (my apologies to your wife) .. one thing it does is really boost the emphasis on the tall plants .. the become a really strong element.
take care,
John
