Photographer's Note
Lisbon is such an amazing city. There is so much interesting to see there. That's why we keep on going there.
This photo was taking from Castle Sao Jorge. The castle is build on one of the 7 hill’s.
From there you get a 360 view of Lisbon. On this image you can see Elevator of Santa Justa (the metal construction), a little of the Baixa (downtown) that was build after the earthquake of 1755 and the ruins of Carmo Church.
The elevator of Santa Justa was designed by a student of Gustav Eiffel, Raoul Mesnier de Ponsard. The Santa Justa Elevator makes the connection between the Baixa (downtown) and Bairro Alto (high neighbourhood).
It was opened in 1902, when it was steam powered, then in 1907 it became electrical and was the only vertical elevator in Lisbon in public service. Made entirely of cast iron, and embellished with filigree, the lifts within the tower go up to 45 metres. In a romantic neogothic design, this elevator is really something that you cannot afford to miss
To the right you see the ruins of Carmo Church. This amazing gothic monument, or what's left of it, was founded by Nuno Álvares Pereira, the commander that became a member of the Carmelite Order. Its construction was finished in 1423 and was at that time the biggest church in Lisbon. The church was devastated by the earthquake in 1755. The church is now home to the Archaeological Carmo Museum.
In this museum there is a historical collection of inestimable value with pieces from prehistory to contemporanety.

A fine compo from Lisboa kik. The blend and mix of red roofs and the church in there sure is typical for the city, even the elevator, typical of the place. Well captured.

Hola Kik,
You captured the Carmo ruins realy well in its direct context, amongst it the old elevador. The tight framing works very well here and I love the feast of red hues and the graphical feelof this capture.
Have a nice weekend,
Bert

I really like these type of photo's! It's good vision to crop something down from something so vast! Nice texture and colours.

Hi friends,
I have seen this photo in your intro page, and it has attracted me immediately, because I am going to visit Lisbon at beginning of November.
I like this sight from Sao Jorge's castle, and the way in which you have structured the composition, playing with the urban "chaos" of the red roofs of the houses, in a flat perspective due to the long lens, and where are outlined the ruins of the Carmo church and the Elevator of Santa Justa, a several real icons of the city that I will meet personally soon.
A nice work.
Best regards,
Josep
