Photographer's Note
Roof top detail of Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish Church - Mother church of Viana do Alentejo located inside its Castle, 20km south of Évora.
This was taken from the top of the Castle's walls: a narrow corridor bettween the church and the walls allow the visitor to go around the church and see details from a close approach that usually are too distant to be apreciated properly. It also has wonderful views over the town of Viana do Alentejo. For more pictures of this amazing architecture you can visit my previous post of this church.
--------
Unique, not merely in terms of Alentejo late gothic, but in the whole Portugal, the Parish Church marks, by its size, decoration and structure, this monumental group. It is atributed to Diogo de Arruda, one of the most important master stonemasons of the Manueline period.
Dedicated to Our Lady of the Annunciation, the church, in addition of being typical of the region's architecture, is a striking example os the aesthetic diversity characterizing the Manueline style. Here, we can find the gothic, Manueline sculptural exuberance, the mudejar influence, decorative renaissance features and an iconographic programme which links this diversity: royal heraldry.
For more information you can see here (IPPAR) but unfortunately it's only in Portuguese.

sheer beauty, ric!
all those zig-zag lines, all those walls of white topped with slight black endings... this is a creative way of seeing things in architecture... not often that i comment on archi photography lately but this one is quite irresistible...

Bonjour, cher Ricardo,

Now here I don't mind the distortion, as it is quite a creative, close composition, and the the sloping lines of the architecture are part of the artistry of the whole image. Very well framed with an attractive sky in the background.

A great pic, Ricardo, a very impressive one with the high impact of this wonderful church. And... maybe can you see Eolo, the God of the winds, blowing in the sky? Look, look, Ricardo: he is there! He has two eyes, a nose and a mouth blowing. Not just a cloud: really Eolo! Ciao...

I like the inverted depth you composed here, with the small totems gazing at the beautiful blue sky. The strong white/blue contrast is excellent too. Great impact.
You did it well, mostly thanks to your inspiration and the pov choice.

Aqui o azul vem do céu...
Um abraço, José.

Ola Ricardo
Stepping back a little in your gallery, you know how I like architecture shots! This church is so 'pure' in terms of simplicity, plain, simple white walls, against the blue sky. The distortion helps as the cones seem to merge in an infinite point up in the blue sky. Very different one from you & yeah...works very well my friend
Best Regards

Ola Ricardo
A very bold composition of white and blue as well as upwards - impressive and well done. If you had not written church I would had said it is mosque. Excellent use of graphic elements, adding to the fantastic DOF effect. Contrasts and colors are vibrant and of high sharpness. That's a master stroke.
Best regards
Urs
