Blue Eyes, a photo from Vojvodina, North

Photographer's Note

I am not into portraits, but this photo is very dear to me. While visiting the town Vrsac in the province of Vojvodina, and photographing their old architecture, this little girl approached and asked me to take a picture of her. I suppose she has some Gypsy blood, judging from her face and clothes...and I don't think her childhood will last for long.

PP: cropped this way to get rid of some distracting elements, burnt the background a bit, and applied 'clarify' in Corel Paint Pro (except on her face).

It's hard to realize that whole country was deprived a normal life due to NATO invasion.

Very good portrait!
The girl has a powerful look.
The composition is great, with the girl on the right and the texturized wall behind her, and the colour of her sweater is almost the same as her eyes!

hi marija,
i quite often use "clarify" option in psp, and immediatelly recognized an effect you managed to accomplish here, its really amazing how such a simple portrait can be converted into a masterpiece, how a simple girl having exceptional eyes can become a little princess!

Zdravo Marija,
Kako smo ovo uspeli danas nemam pojma, ali i ti i ja imamo portrete "ciganskog" porekla, totalno su drukciji ali ipak povezani.
Ovo je jedan divan portret devojcice, prekrasne boje, kontrast majice i njenih ociju je fenomenalan. Nisam koristio Corel Paint Pro ali vidim da je ova funkcija "clarify" jako korisna...
Odusevljen sam lakocom i jednostavnoscu ove slike.

Hi Marija. It is a compelling result that you got in this portrait of her - the gaze towards your camera is quite intense, and the pose against the barren wall is excellent to enhance a raw and elementary feel. Excellent use of the clarify tool to strengthen the textural aspect, and a wise choice to exclude her face when doing so. Very nice work again.

I know what you mean...I am not a fan of portraits either...

Something a little static about them, I feel. I like situational portraits, but I cannot see myself specialising in them.

About your picture...I like it very much. There is a definate sadness in her eyes and I think you captured her well. I actually quite like the way that you cropped her left side as it makes it less formal. I also like that you have included her belt...

izgleda, da smo danas svi nekako oko dece. Lep portret devojcice plavih ociju, boje njene majice... i kontrast njenog neznog lica i rucice sa surovim(?) zidom. Krasno.

Very nice portrait, Marija. I like the expression of sadness but also reflective you have captured in a very nicely done composition. This girl is very rigid in front of your camera like she is afraid to move and fixing you with piercing eyes who probably have already seen too much. Well done!

I find lot of dynamism in this potrait.
The expressive face of the girl is well captured in to the frame.
The texture of the wall and the linen is very impressive.
The soft colours are very soothing.

Zdravo Marija. At first, the shot attracted me because of its dramatic composition and strong character (thanks to her uncompromising glance.) However, reading your note I was saddened by your prognosis for her future. It is a shame that we live in a world in which children are not safe and cared for. Inace, divan portret, divno svjetlo i nekako onaj tamni zid dirne u srce, jer cini se da i njoj nema veselja, nema mjesta da "leti". Pozdrav. Klaudio.

Hello Marija! She is just beautiful, she is my little Heidi maybe, I mean her hair, her eyes, so attractive, and as I read she might have a difficult life in front of her. I am sorry to hear that, not everybody is as lucky as some of us are and you are born into a family and there you are with your destiny. I hope she finds a life full of joy and that we are wrong with our judgement but sometimes you feel that it goes wrong, not many words needed. Excellent work, no portraits? Why not ... I like it.
