Kapija, ili vratnice, je gradjevinski elemenat i elemenat arhitekture koji omogucava prolaz kroz odbrambenu liniju utvrdjene celine. Rec „kapija” je poreklom turska, a srpska rec je „vratnice”.
Ima po pravilu bezbednostni karakter i odredjuje ko moze da stupi odnosno izadje iz utvrdjene celine – prostora i kao glavni komunikacioni i bezbednosni sistem odredjuje granice izmedju sigurnosti unutar i svet izvan utvrdjenja, dvorista kuce ili zgrade.
U kuci niko ne zivi, kapija dugo nije otvarana.
