Photographer's Note

Slovak opera singer Peter Dvorsky sings that the most beautiful corner in the wide world is his home land. After seeing a bit from the world, I agree.

During my 2008 late summer central and east Slovakia trip I enjoyed gently rolling hills, fascinating caves, UNESCO-heritage wooden orthodox churches and castles and once rich medieval towns.

The riches of nature and historical places are amazing. Unfortunately the quality of services which should complement these tourist attractions are many times sub-standard and sometimes leave the visitors disappointed. There愀 still a lot to learn and to improve. Since this was my first time in this part of Slovakia, I can愒 compare the development with the past. But I am sure it愀 getting better, especially when taking in consideration that region of central-southern Slovakia belongs to those with highest unemployment rates and biggest social problems.

But back to this photo. It was taken on a hill "Diel" on the east from Myto pod Dumbierom. You can see the northern part of this village in the valley. In the center of the mountain range in the back, you can see Stiavnica, the 2nd highest peak of Nizke Tatry (2025 m a.s.l.). And on the sunlit meadow you can see a herd of sheep.
