Photographer's Note

Hello friends and colleagues, today I propose a view of the city of Ribadesella with the river in the foreground, a charming place at the mouth of the river Sella. I hope you like it, then some letters about the villa.

Ribadesella (in Asturian, Ribeseya) is a council of the autonomous community of the Principality of Asturias. It limits to the north with the Cantabrian sea, to the east with Llanes, to the south with Cangas de On疄 and Parres and to the west with Caravia. Founded by Alfonso X el Sabio. It was one of the main Asturian ports of the 19th century. It has a population of 6,242 inhabitants (INE, 2011).

The council also has numerous companies dedicated to adventure sports, such as canoeing, caving or climbing. The first Saturday of August after day 2 is celebrated the famous International Descent of Sella, where athletes from all over the world attend and a great local party is celebrated.

This council also stands out for the variety of tourism that it offers, and especially for the activities that surround the cave of Tito Bustillo, famous for its prehistoric paintings and for the dinosaur footprints.

During the Middle Ages the town lived a moment of splendor thanks to the shipyards that were nourished by the wood that was lowered by the Sella, and maritime trade, especially salt (essential for salting the fish). However, the most profitable activity was the capture of the salmon in the Sella, controlled by the "Mareantes", and the hunts of the whales that hibernated in those waters. As a result of this the House of the whales that lasts in the village until the nineteenth century is derived.

In the political sphere, Ribadesella became a very contested square thanks to its innumerable sources of wealth and its strategic geographical situation. It is here when the house Qui隳nes takes over the town in the time of Juan II, returning to incorporate the crown in the time of the Catholic Kings who evicted the Qui隳nes family from their possessions.

In the 16th century, a historic event took place for the town, such as the arrival of the Emperor Charles I of Spain, as a result of which the event was celebrated for two days in a row. It is in this stage when the enclosure of the hermitage of the Guide is fortified to defend the port of enemy towns. It is a time of relative tranquility when it comes to safety.

During the seventeenth century an attempt was made to create the main port of Asturias in Ribadesella, in addition to the link with the plateau, presenting a road project by Ponga, but due to Jovellanos influences, it finally fell to the port of Gij鏮 that projected the Pajares highway. access to the plateau by Leon. Hello Angel,
I like the bend in the coastline at left, which makes the composition more dynamic. The town stands out nicely from the cloudy mountains in the distance. The overall colours are pleasant and natural.

Una magn璗ica imagen de este bello pueblo asturiano, en un dia con su climatologia mas habitual, con ese cielo nuboso y las nubes bajas sobre las monta鎙s del fondo, sin embargo la linea de costa y el verdor junto a las mismas luce ideal.
Nitidez, iluminaci鏮, color, y la magnifica composici鏮; son todos factores perfectamente realizados, en esta preciosa imagen.

Wide bay area beautifully shown here. Town houses along the shoreline on the far side, are in good visible clarity, the colors and the whole allocation of the pic. space in a fine manner.

This looks pretty overcast, especially for July in Spain. Is this normal? The mountain tops seem to be covered in clouds. Nevertheless, it looks like a very charming coastal town.

Hola amigo 聲gel,
gracias a tu bonita foto me evocas unos grandes recuerdos del viaje que hicimos por Cantabria y Asturias hace unos a隳s Pili y yo solitos.
Preciosa vista de este bello pueblo, con la desembocadura del Sella en primer plano y las poblaci鏮 al fondo, rodeada del bonito y pintoresco paisaje verde tan cant墎rico.
A pesar de las nubes y de la luz bastante neutra, conseguiste una imagen viva, n癃ida y con buenos colores, en una composici鏮 atractiva y bien estructurada en un eficaz encuadre.
Me gusta, es un buen trabajo.
Un abrazo para los dos de nuestra parte.
