For the last October school break in the UK we booked holidays in Morocco. One of the attractions for children there would be a ride on a camel. Sadly the flights to Morocco were cancelled two days before the departure, but what a coincidence, we still managed to take out daughter to a destination where she could ride a camel. Camel rides are an attraction in the Timanfaya National Park.
In fact, they say, there are only three ways to explore this picturesque national park. You can take a coach tour, which takes you through the most attractive spots, however you are not allowed to leave the bus. You can book a guided tour (well in advance), which is however limited to adults (over 16 years old). Or you can venture into Timanfaya National Park on a camel. Well, that is what was advertised. In reality, the camel rides were indeed great fun for families but it was such a short ride that you didn't go much further from the parking spot. You can see how short the ride was by checking the coordinates I provided. It is really hard to count is as a way to explore the national park. I do strongly recommend this experience but don't have any hopes that you will see anything more than what you can see from the road. What is quite particular about the camel rides on Lanzarote is that you don't sit directly on the camel hump but instead there are two wooden seats on both sides of the hump, so you are sitting on a side of the hump.
