I wish you all a great new year and I hope you all had a beautiful Christmas. We were in Madrid this Christmas and I start the series with this iconic image from Puerta del Sol.

The Puerta del Sol ("Gate of the Sun") is a public square in Madrid, one of the best known and busiest places in the city. This is the centre (Km 0) of the radial network of Spanish roads. The square also contains the famous clock whose bells mark the traditional eating of the Twelve Grapes and the beginning of a new year. The New Year's celebration has been broadcast live on national television since 31 December 1962.

Hello Daniel,
I think Christmas in Madrid is quite different to one in Stockholm. Madrid may have more majestic sights, but Stockholm has more water ;-). This is a fine photo from the black hours with splendid illuminations. The black, blue and yellow areas are all well exposed and there is enough activity in the street to make me happy.

A very festive scene that I definitely wanted to look at.
It is a fine example of a well managed night shot.
The artificial lights give excellent illumination, the aspect is well chosen and there is a wonderful, Christmassy atmosphere.

Elle est vraiment tr鋊 belle cette place immense de Madrid. C'est beau de jour mais encore plus de nuit surtout avec cette illumination du temps des f皻es. Superbe ligne de fuite.

Hello Daniel,

obviously a very lively and natural party scene - we had a lot of trouble with sexual infringement by north african young men at Cologne last year and responded with a overdose of policemen this year.

hello Daniel, You like to travel during Christmas. Last year it was Stockholm, now you went to Madrid. Wonderful view of the Puerta del Sol with the Christmas illumination. amazing how many people there. In Poland, all stay at home with the most celebrate dinner.

The very center of the city, attractive all year round - but especially with those holiday's decorations.
A well mastered night scene, crisp with shining white illuminations, and good contrast to the dark sky and the mild yellow light o the plaza.
People, as always added vividness and vibrant scale on this picture.

Excellent night image taken at black hour which is generally much more difficult to manage in terms of exposure than blue hour. The colours and lights are beautifully captured.
I've never been to Madrid and in your photo it looks wonderful.
