Photographer's Note

This lion is one of several lions who are "guarding" the Stockholm palace for intruders. If that is not enough there are also units of the Swedish armed forces here :)
The castle is central located in Stockholm with many attractions within walking distance.

My first post for 2012 is a b&w shot, perfect for a gray and dull day in January in my opinion.

Great POV for this shot. The perspectiv4e from below has created a very funny and attractive effect of the woman, lion and three very small :-) lamps balancing on the horizon. Very well seen and handled. The b&w conversion seems an obvious choice for this kind of photo.

Hello Boa,

A funny shot in B&W where the silhouetted woman is nicely placed in front of the lion as if the lion is looking at her. Nice inclusion of the three lamps . Nice sharp image.

Hello Boa,

I am no great fan of black and white but these picture suits perfect to this object.
The Lion together the lanterns and the man care for a specially image.
Sharpness and clarity are perfect taken.

Hello Boa,

Normally I would say thet the figure needs to be walking into the shot not out of it but with the figures behind creating the scenario, like the Pied Piper of Hamlyn, perhaps, in this case, rules need to be broken.
B&w seem the obvious choice to me, too; they create more drama with their absolute contrast and add nothing to distract from the figures.

Hej Boa,

A very nice capture, with the silhouettes of the lamps, the lion statue and the woman creating a nice progression that leads the viewer's attention across the picture.
Just as an experiment, I posted a workshop where I cropped the picture a bit, in order to maximise the effect.

Hello Boa,
I like silhouettes and plays on perspective, and this photo has fine examples of both. I looked at the workshop, but my personal preference is to choose the original photo. I like the sense of empty space. I think it adds a certain feeling to the scene, but I can't quite describe what it is...maybe a sense of being alone, or a bit of nostalgia.
