Photographer's Note
This photo of group of roe deers in the area along Fyris river south of Uppsala was taken exactly one year ago. We still had some snow then. This year the snow disappeared more than a month earlier.
The roe deer male (buck) and female (doe) roe deer are almost equal in size. The buck is just a little bit bigger and heavier. Only the bucks have antlers. The antlers are shed in November each year and new antlers start to develop in January. For this reason it might be a little bit difficult to distinguish a buck from a doe in this period. Howvever, there are still some features that make it possible The new antlers are developed inside a protective and nutrient velvet cover. This cover could clearly be seen on the antlers of the roe bucks in this photo. When the antlers have developed this cover dries and is rubbed off against trees and shrubs.

It is very notable how the deers legs dip in the snow, Ulf, and also how they all looked at your direction in tandem.
Beautiful animals, fine taken the photo, balanced well the WB.

Hello Ulf,
great close up picture and the deers seem to be posing without any stage fear :-) Lovely captured and composed with snowy field providing excellent background for the animals. I like how you used the branches to frame the image at the top.
Superb colors and light management, ideal sharpness.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy your evening

Hej Ulf,

Hej Ulf,
Lovely group portrait of these deers. They certainly are very alert and all of them looking at the camera is favourable to the result. Indeed April looks quite different this year.
