A stranger in town, a photo from Sodermanland, Svealand

This is a relatively new view from one of the longest streets on S鐰ermalm, crossing most of the island in a north-south direction. The tall building was opened as recently as 2020.

I think of it as a "stranger in town", because its size and style is so different from the design and colours that characterize the central parts of Stockholm. This view describes the differences quite well.

The tall building is actually situated on the city's southern mainland, so there is an invisible stretch of water somewhere beyond the trees. Probably its location outside the "inner city" made it acceptable to the local politicians and their advisory so called "beauty council".

After I decided to post this on TE I remembered I had a few photos taken from the 27th floor Skybar, where I was invited for lunch in mid-December. You can see two of them in the WS.

Click at Map: view to see approximately where I took this photo. You will find that this slope is not quite as steep as my camera lens made it look.

It was a dull day and unfortunately the sky is rather washed out. I don't particularly like that, but I like artificial blue skies even less, so I decided to keep it like this.

I can agree with the title, as the modern tall building looks from a different plcae... a destiny of all modern cities nowadays, skyscrapers evolving the urban sceneries.

Hello Gert, the tall building certainly does look out of place, I wonder how it got through the planning procedure?
It contrasts with the other more traditional buildings and becomes a bold focal point.
Initially before I read your notes, I thought that the car in the foreground was maybe the 鷔tranger� possibly with a foreign number plate.
Plenty of details to enjoy. Thanks for the extra shots too.

a nice idea to use the fa蓷des as a frame to the modern building. I liked it, it is not so usual, has creativity in terms of design. I liked those small repetitive buildings in WS. nice views of your town.

I like the flattened perspective from the zoom lens. Good sharpness and yes the highrise building looks out of place against the historic fg. That said, all big cities are dynamic places constantly changing. Superb sharpness, colour and perspective. Tfs!

Hi Gert,the two photos in the WS offer a much better view thanks to the light and the POV, but also the main photo taken recently is a great perspective, a kind of photo that I really like and that reminds the one posted today by Bari by ChrisJ. Dear Gert,

This photo shows how much perspective and lens choice matters. On this photo the street looks rather short, while from the panoramic view it is obvious that it is long street. And as you note it is not that steep.

Hello Gert, Good title, it is really a stranger. It looks not so bad but I would prefer the view without it. But, unfortunately, the developers have means to made acceptable their projects. Exccellent colours and composition.The big car in front is a bit disturbning but probably difficult to avoid. I like the hanging lamps. Do I guess well that this Skybar is in this building? What prices were there? Fantastic views from above, why you didn't show as a main post (another time)?

All the brown and grey tones of buildings make a nice mix on this street. I like the window design of the background building and would imagine it looks different on a sunny weather. High viewpoint down the street is excellent.

Hi Gert.
The tall building at the bottom of the perspective of the street, seems like the monster contemplating it, in an environment of houses of not very high heights and with a harmony in their construction, I do not like these buildings, which look good when they constitute a financial district or modern, but this happens everywhere.
Great color that brings out the details of the image, the sharpness is excellent and the lighting is splendid.
