Photographer's Note

Short series from the 'Scarecrow' festival which takes place every 3-4 years in Denens, close to Morges. The village of Denens proclaims itself as Scarecrow Capital.

Based on recent hapenning around us I decided this to be the first posting of the series.... In a way we are surrounded by war and fear... Fear of when would next bomb explode and on which country can we start next war against terror... In all this we slowly forget that there is a way to peace... that is by peace and not by war.... Peace on world...

I really like this Bala - the open sky reminds us of the birds but it would also work well as a square composition without so much sky I think. A very serious humerous study - underlying the humour there are these fundamental questions and the dynamic balance between peace and war.

We have scarecrow competitions in the UK - some amazing things are made - someone showed me a photographic exhibition they made once! Look forward to seeing more!

Good shot and an excellent note to complement. We sure tend to test the limits by waging ceaseless, and many times, unnecessary wars. Thanks for posting such a good photo.

I find the sky a bit over exposed. Mybe it would've helped if you cropped the sky a bit to get more focus on the subjects. Also, the colour of the sky is very nice. I wonder if this is because of post processing. I like the appropriate position of the tag on the soldier too ;-)

Hi Bala,
What an original festival, I had never heard of it, so thanks a lot for showing this. It must be really fun. Great photo, I relaly like the post processed colours which give the photo a used look. Look forward to seeing more.

great combo! the smokey sky is great lower. it might look better with less of the white sky.

nice funny shot. I like the note too. the yellowish sky gives a wonderful light to the scene. I like the way the war scarecrow is watching the other one. it looks like he's scared of peace.

An excellent compo showing such contrasting behaviour even among scarecrows!...:) Never knew there were scraecrow compwtitions but now when i think of it, there are different ways people dress up their scarecrows..so i guess it is a nice subject to compete on..!

For me this one is the best scarecrow in the serie, good subject and epressive coloring.
