Photographer's Note

This is a view of the Eiger, taken from a meadow a little way below the Grosse Scheidegg. I had gotten used to seeing the Eiger from Grindelwald or the Kleine Scheidegg, from where it presents its awesome North Face and gives an air of solidity and might that plays up to its fearsome reputation. I was surprised to see that in reality it's just a knife edge of rock, fragile and delicate.
