Photographer's Note

From the Schynige Platte-Faulhorn-Bachalpsee-First hiking route:
After arriving Bachalpsee, which is another 40 min walk to First, I decided to take a long break to enjoy the whole view and to forgo the 1700hr last gondola ride down to Grindelwald. That meant an additional three hour walk down to Grindelwald. This photo was taken up the slope soon after leaving the alpine lake as the peak of the Wetterhorn was coming into view again. Right at the top of this slope the path goes down and the full view of the meadows and mountains are laid out before you. Marmots were seen jumping about in the grass - wished I had a longer lens. I was lucky to have cleared the steep forested slope just before it got dark. I was again lucky to get a direction from someone at a mountain lodge. He showed the direction to an asphalt mountain biking path that led straight down to Grindelwald. That was the most punishing part of the walk but then I didn't have to negotiate any rocks and exposed roots in the dark or worse lost my way - didn't carry flash light to be able to look at the map or trail signs. After arriving at my hotel at around 2030 I rewarded myself with some beers & a real good and big meal that cost twice my daily room rate. It was a memorable full day hike.
