Photographer's Note
Bother.
I intended to post this as a WS and vice versa, but I clicked the wrong click !
No matter, this is probably more telling, though I think the WS is a neater photograph. ( hint - they work well together in 'WS-compare')
Carlisle is unusual, in that much of the nave was destroyed to fortify the nearby castle, thus making it the smallest Ancient Cathedral in England, save for Oxford.
The East window seen here is largest and most complex window of its 'flowing decorated' style in England, and is the notable feature of the building.

Hello Martin,
This is a lovely pair of photographs which you have presented of Carlisle cathedral even although you got the main picture and the workshop one the wrong way round! An interesting note too.
Technically the pictures are good too but I am sure that, had you taken your DSLR with you, they would have been even better. On the other hand, you would certainly never have achieved such a remarkable depth of field at f/2.0 with that! What I also like is that the window is well seen and not overexposed - I wonder if that was skill in taking the picture or wisdom in choosing the right time of day (and so the position of the sun) for taking your pictures?
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.
