Photographer's Note
Another view of our weekly steam special. Unlike here, where I found a viewpoint the wrong side for the light, this one is just so. Unfortunately it is right on the track-side, so there was not much time to get the right click at the right time. I wanted to catch the locomotive closer to but by the time the little Powershot had sorted itself out the train had gone past .
But I'm happy with this result.
WS shows the next click !

Hi, Martin,
Is it a remake of the "Arrival of a Train" (The Lumière Brothers) ? Well done! I like your point of view, good expression of the old locomotive, clever diagonal composition.

Serghei

Hello Martin,
as a railway fan I like your picture here very much. Very good composition and fine colors.I think that you could have waited only a few seconds to shot. By that way more of the train could be seen on your picture. Nervertheless a goos fotojob.Very well done.TFS.

Excellent pov. There is a low angle lead in along the track. There is a little a hint of movement in the foreground grass, and a real sense of power with the smoke billowing out of the engine.

Good evening Martin,
A fine shot over ther steam-engine, puffing it's way up the tracks.
The smoke gave good contrast to the country-side scenery.
For me, this sight is unique, as we do not have such trains in Israel.
Cheers,
Ike

hi martin,
this is a wonderful picture where the smoke appears to merge seamlessly with the clouds and fill the sky. it holds the whole image together perfectly. the light and colours are terrific. the stone walls on either side frame the train superbly. as you say in your notes the view from the other side is excellent and cuts out the grey metal railing which is the only distraction.
regards,
brian

The train with white and grey smoke bellowing out of the engine is seen here between two little hillocks. There are stone walls fencing the land beyond the tracks - on either side of the photograph. Two tall trees standing atop each of the hillocks, like sentinels, add to the balance in the composition. The diagonal lines across the foreground enhance the sense of fast movement of the train. The mix of the white clouds and the grey smoke from the train, with blue skies in the backgroud makes the top of the photograph as action packed as the moving train in the bottom half of the picture.
Thanks for sharing.

Hello Martin,
What is it about steam trains that we love so much, for they are noisy and dirty! Perhaps it's the memories, or maybe that they had names that we could collect, or maybe we link them to childhood stories, familiar and reassuring, or the fact that they were big and powerful, thrusting out steam and smoke, afraid of no-one, or ... as I suapect a little bit of all of them!
I remember my big brothers dragging me along to bridges to train spot ... yawn! But now, I am entranced by them!
You have chosen a fine viewpoint with the trainlines creating a good lead towards the exciting, oncoming engine. The billowing smoke helps to create the mood of power as it takes over the sky.
Excellent compositional positioning in this sharp exposure.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Martin,
How lucky you are to live so close to such a wonderful railway with this "steam special" coming past on a weekly basis!
And you have caught this lovely locomotive and train in the most delicious light from an excellent viewpoint too. Glorious light and colours, excellent composition and very good details and sharpness considering that this wasn't taken with your "pro" camera. The plume of exhaust smoke and steam is a lovely added feature, probably in evidence because this looks very much like the engine was pulling up a gradient.
Fabulous!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. A fine workshop picture too!

LOVELY PICTURES WITH LOVELY SETTINGS.LIKE THE ATMOSPHERE SO MUCH.WHAT REALLY ATTRACTS ME IS THE FACT THAT HOW THE STEAM AND THE CLOUDS SORT OF MERGE INTO EACH OTHER IN THE FRAME.

What a wonderfully evocative image. The power and the strain of the climb are clearly showing in the billowing smoke and steam. I love the composition and the fact that you have left the area to the right empty giving a dynamic to the shot and you just feel that the train will fill that space and go rushing past.

Hi Martin,
A nice POV on this steam train. Your POV is excellent. The perspective line of the rails add depth and the train is at the right place, with space to run into. I'd like to have token this picture ! Workshop is excellent too, I think it worths its own post ;)
Have a nice day,

Hello Martin,
I missed this one as I have not been visiting TE so frequently in the last couple of weeks - really busy. I love this one because it evokes those 'Railway Children' memories. The billowing smoke/steam and the clouds in the sky give a tremendous mood to the image. I am also drawn to those lovely drystone walls curving their way down the banks. Taken at a very good moment indeed.
Best wishes, Ann

This looks like a still from a movie, Porot's Blue Train or the Railway Children or something. I love the perspective that the tracks make, there is a real sense of movement with the steam and clouds and the chromatic rendering is spot-on. This is wonderful and I can imagine that the boys toys fellas like John, Kari and Eleu would be foaming at the mouth at both your subject matter and the great quality of the shot.
Take care and I hope all is well in Cutie Town

Hello Martin,
A strong perspective with the tracks seemingly popping out of the frame. The stone walls act as gracious counterpoints and the fluffy smoke is also a pleasant source of interest.
Thanks for sharing,
Emmanuel
