Photographer's Note
In 2003 i saw a lot of these beautiful abbeys in the uk.
This abbey was founded in AD657 on the site of what may previously have been a Roman signal station.
It was destroyed during a Viking invasion in AD867, but one of William the Conqueror’s knights revived it in the late 1070s.
The sky was very colourless when i visited, and therefore chose this B+W version.

Hej Harry,
B&W works well for the picture of this abbey. The ruins stand out nicely against the grey sky. Good work!

Bonour Harry,
sinistre mais pas sans intérêt. Il reste peu de cette abbaye, mais ce peu va certainment traverser encore les siècles.
Le traitmeent en b&w est judicieux.
Excellent travail, pas aidé par les conditions de lumières.
Daniel.

Hello Harry, this is a moving picture of these old abbey in ruins. It is a fascinating sight but I get the feeling that the building still remembers its glorious past. The black and white medium and slightly grainy effect emphasises this sense of loss.

Hello Harry,
Lovely B&W shot and a good composition. It looks like an old postcard. Did you know that Count Dracula was reported to have visited Whitby?

Hi Harry - the BW was a wise choice, it gives it an intruiging war damage effect from WWII, the vintage look gives it artistic appeal, which would have been lost in a colour version under this light.

Great architectural shot and perspective, and choice of black and white. I went here a few years ago (1999 I believe), but I didn't get any good pictures of the place, which is unfortunate. This is a wonderful reminder, though.

This came up on your random page and as it is close to where I live I had to have a look. The B&W works well here and fits the gothic scene. Because of the location you always get a lot of sky in shot and 90% of the time there's no detail in it so B&W was a good option.
I looked at your UK page; it's good to see that a visitor to my country has travelled extensively outside London.
Happy New Year to you and your family.
