Photographer's Note
Good Mornng Everyone,
Maybe you think that I have been training to be a wizard or learning to play Quidditch, having spent time at Hogwarts! I think those skills would be very useful!
Sadly, Alnwick Castle is only used for exterior shots of Hogwarts and you can't really train there for those unusual skills!
Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in England. It has been a home to the dukes of Northumberland for over 700 years. It is one of those places that feels like a home despite its size and grandeur.
Besides being used for scenes in Harry Potter movies, it is also used for some interior scenes in Downton Abbey. The dining room was set out for one of the episodes and the costumes of the main characters were on display.
Thank you for your interest.
Have a great day, Bev :-)

Hello Beverley,
The fact that this castle still inhabited, is a fascinating story by itself - there is a real living dukes... and the size is awesome.
The view conveys well the vast property, I'd walk on the trail we see on mid-picture to the right, in order to grasp a wider view on camera over the castle, only if possible.
altogether, intriguing place and a your picture show this beautifully.
Best regards,
Ike

Hello Bev,
Oh dear, no Quidditch here for you? I was just conjuring up in my mind images of you astride a broomstick flying through the air over those battlements too! :)
This is a delightful view of Alnwick Castle, especially with the foreground daffodils and bluebells making a strong and beautiful foreground feature against the dominating structure of the castle beyond. A fine composition too with the pathway leading us nicely into the frame.
Lovely light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
Lovely!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Beverley,
What a great combination, Harry Potter and Downton Abbey, that would make a very popular TV-series I think, especially when it is set in this castle. Great view of the impressive walls and towers and the lawns full of flowers make it look even more appealing. Great composition.

Dear Beverley,
I'm not surprised that both crew chose this castle, it is really beautiful and lies in a stunning environment. You chose an unusual way to compose the image, splitting it with the trees instead of using the road as a central element. Colours are nice as well.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hello Bev,
This is much more a real English castle I imagine when I think of that than Sissinghurst castle and gardens I visited last week.
For your capability to become the Quidditch player of the year I don’t have any idea, but we can call you a wizard for making this kind of interesting and lovely pictures.

Bonjour Beverly,
Cette photo sent le printemps à plein nez.Les crocus fleurissent ainsi que les tulipes partout dans les champs entourant le château au loin. Il semble très grand et très impressionnant. Bientôt les feuilles vont bloquer cette belle vue.

Hi Bev
That's really cool :) I must admit I lost interest in the Harry Potter films after the third one but I did love the special effects and the castles so it's a pleasure to see this beautiful castle in the company of a cool tree and wonderful bluebells. Very cool post
Cheers

Hello Beverley, there is plenty to enjoy in this shot with its lovely light and a real feeling of spring.
Love the trees and the shadows that they create.
The castle is an excellent backdrop.
It is an invitation, as we want to see more of the castle!

Hello Beverley,
A real fortified castle and sturdy trunks along the way that leads to its gate.
But also lots of lovely pretty flowers on the surrounding lawns.
An attractive presentation, well composed and with good depth. The visitors further on the road give us a good sense of scale.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Beverley
Quelle jolie présentation, le printemps commence a bien s'installer et rend l'image encore plus attrayante , bon cadrage du chemin menant vers le château, les arbres encore dénudées de leurs feuilles laisse un bel aperçu sur le château

Hello Beverly,
very ineresting your comments about this beautiful castle.
I like very much Harry Potter and also Downton Abbey. I think it is very important to use these beautiful buildings for movies, it helps to maintain them.
I love castles and their stories. I like very much this structure and I like the small road going to the castle with its field full of flowers around.
Well done and have a nice day

Hello Bev,
Reply to my picture, the farmers get to few money for his tulips, I have speaking with the farmer his son, also a lot of tulips coming out of Turkey to the Netherlands. countries with low wages.
Your both pictures are beautiful, you choose a very well angle with depth and perspective through the narrow path.this leads us to the castle.
Colours and sharpness are perfect taken.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice day,
John.

Hi Bev,
Alnwick Castle is at the moment on top of my favourite places to visit locally. It is there since a year :)
Because it is so interesting I keep postponing my trip there waiting for optimal weather conditions. Let's hope it works out this year :)
I have been not very active recently and I see you have uploaded several beautiful pictures of great interest for me because they also present places in Northumberland which I didn't visit yet.
Next two weeks I may be not present either so I will have to come back to them later.
This is a very impressive presentation of Alnwick Castle.
The trees steal the show.
But of course there is so much going on here: the road motif is so attractive and the castle itself looks huge here, and the colorful flowers make a fairy tale like foreground.
There is even a picnic area with some action and a couple walking the way.
Excellent work! I really have to visit Alnwick this year!

Hi Bev
so let me get this right....so people/a family is still living in this HUGE Castle?
you have to keep in mind Bev, i'm from North America, we don't really have Castle's over here - so the idea of Castle life is very foreign and strange to me. Castles are everywhere in the UK and Europe.
Wealthy or not, why would anyone/any family want to like in such a Castle like this? Do you really need 300 rooms? lol
glad you added in the large tree trunks, I think they add alot to the scene. still can't get over the fact people live here!!!
thanks for this one
cheers

Hello Bev, Ah, how lovely view. Fantastic composition, old castle big trees and everywhere spring flowers - daffodils, muscari and maybe tulips, but it is difficult to recognize the white flowers. In POland we have spring more advanced, the most beautiful times of blossoming trees comes to the end.

Hello Beverley
The yellow daffodils contrast well with the blur flowers behind them. The path adds strong converging lead in lines towards the castle gate. The dark tree trunks add a nice graphic element against the lighter toned bg. Tfs!

Look out Hermione, here comes Bev!
Excellent shot and what an informative note. I did not know this was the location for the Harry Potter films. Beautiful colours and contrasts, the path on the left leads the eye into the frame nicely. Superb sharpness and a lovely, suggestive dappled light.
Warmest wishes, thanks for sharing and big hugs
Lisa
