Bev has uploaded this year few photos from Alnwick Castle and explained its close relation to Harry Potter movies. Indeed this castle has been used as a filming location for numerous movies, including two of the Harry Potter ones. You can read about its rich history here in wikipedia. I must say I am not easily impressed but this place has several times made me say WOW! First of all it is an amazing place for day out with family and/or for a romantic getaway. I have a feeling we have barely scratched the surface of what you can see and do in this location. We have started with Alnwick Gardens which are a separate attraction away from the castle itself. My daughter was smiling all the time and running from one beautiful spot to another. We were all surprised by the elegance of this place and how original it has been designed. The castle itself is spectacular too. My wife and my daughter took part in the broomstick training session for aspiring witches. Both were quite natural... I think they have a gift. Interior was amazing as well but no photos allowed. Tickets are valid for the whole year so I must revisit to take more photos!

Hello Mariusz,
Ah, that's where I recognised the name from. It's a really impressive castle with its many small towers grouped together in the middle. I like the inclusion of a large part of the lawn in the foreground. The light is pleasant and the people on the left hand side form a nice detail.

Hello Mariusz,
A broomstick training session for aspiring witches? Imagine that to go back home you got a ride on the back of a broom ...
This no longer looks like a castle but more like an entire castle complex. Very impressive!
Nicely framed by the leaves on top and by the shadows at the bottom.

bellissimo castello, sembra solido ed enorme, immagino l'impressione che poteva fare a chi lo avesse visto quando era nel pieno del suo splendore.
Ottima composizione, con parti scure sopra e sotto e le persone decentrate a dare equilibrio alla foto.

cześc Mariusz, To się nazywa zamek! Fantastyczny, z wieżami i murami i chyba byla tam kiedys fosa. I jaka pogoda Ci dopisała, Cieplo i slonecznie jak w lecie. Jakieś takie zajęcia dla czarownic czy czarodziej闚 byly tez w zaku Czocha i Moszna. Piekny kadr, ładnie obramowane od g鏎y gałązkami.

excellent the panoramic view of Alnwick castle with the surrounding grass to make the whole scene even more attractive.The group of the visitors add scale in the scene with the brilliant light of the day to enhance even more the clarity as the beauty of the place.

The view of the castle is great, captured with excellent light and colors, and these leaves in the foreground, besides forming a very nice natural frame to the image, also gives very good depth to it! Wonderful composition!

Hello Mariusz,

I'm not surprised that you were wowed by this castle, it really is a star amongst castles. We loved it, too, and we didn't have children to make that wonderful, fairytale connection!

I really like how you have used the overhanging leaves so effectively to create a sense of depth and to give a softer impression to the very rigid, dominant lines of the castle.
The group of people make a pleasing connection between f/g and b/g and add human interest.
You had good weather for the shot, the nearest castle walls, nicely lit by the sunlight and the whole castle showing off well against the cloud streaked, blue sky.

You use excellent the leaves as frame to above, this gives more attention toward the castle.
Sharpness and clarity are perfect
Also the frontages in background make your picture completely.
Your picture is wonderful made with pleasant colours.

This is one of the most impressive fortresses I've seen anywhere, and I'm afraid I knew very little about it. You had excellent light for presenting the building with its full majesty. It makes sense that the Harry Potter filmmakers knew about the building and were able to secure it for their film.

Hi Mariusz,

Yes, I did see a picture on Facebook of your daughter throwing mice at you while you had your head and arms in a pillory! And you've given us an interesting note here.

This, I suspect, is the "classic" view of Alnwick Castle but it is none the poorer a photograph because of that. The light is beautiful, bringing out the lovely colours, tones and textures of the old stonework and the castle is beautifully presented against a gorgeous blue sky and the verdant surroundings.

Glorious light and colours, perfect exposure and stunning details and sharpness.

Wow ...... imposing castle, which by its large proportions, almost looks like a medieval walled town, great POV with green meadow and tree branches at the top of the image.

so this is a real castle right? not just some hollywood built thing? I'll take a look at the wikipedia thing and find out.

From your note, sounds like its a little bit of a tourist trap too, with the witch thing with the brooms...but i get it...its also for kids too, so i understand that.

the castle itself is outstanding! like you say, i bet you can spend a day here and still not see everything. Must be an awesome place to walk around and inside. wicked subject!

Thanks to your useful notes about this much loved medieval edifices but would love a walk on that well cared fresh green lawn. A productive time photographically as shown here, lovely angled brilliant light and wealth of colours, perspective and depth. Those admirers & bit of red are vital elements as real bonus lending extra liveliness to the overall compo. Combination of delightful contrasting RGB colour is mouth watering to me. This is a well accomplished and attractive shot seamlessly done. Simply top-notch, Congrats

the Castle is certainly impressive both for its size and for its original structure. The sight of so many towers being part of the same castle is very interesting. You achieved superb clarity even in the areas which are in the shade and have darker tones too. I also like the intense colours and the way you added layers, interest and depth using the overhead foliage and the shadow on the lawn. Congratulations and thank you!
