Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,
I have recently posted a couple of photographs of Dunstanburgh Castle which show the castle almost friendly, as it is visited by tourists.
Here, what a difference; the castle looks wild and windswept, yet it is the same castle, on the same day but recorded from a different aspect in b&w.
The castle stands on a headland between Beadnell and Craster and was the largest castle in Northumberland. It was built by Earl Thomas of Lancaster between 1313 and 1322, taking advantage of the site's natural defences and the existing earthworks of a former Iron Age fort. The castle also served as a statement of the earl's wealth and influence, and would have invited comparisons with the neighbouring royal castle of Bamburgh.
I will post the coloured version as w/s.
Thank you for your interest, Bev :-)

Dear Beverley
This is the best among them! It is really a nice composition and BW conversion! Not to mention that the neglected teeth is still visible. :)
Best Wishes!

Hello Beverley, imagine the castle when it was complete and standing in all its' former glory? How imposing would that be?
Comparing the two shots, although the coloured version is delightful because of the variety of colours,I do prefer the b/w version. The depth of field is excellent, so sharp, right from the stones in the fg to the broken walls of the castle.
Regards Jean.

Hello Beverley ,
Usualy , I prefer colors pictures . But sometimes , the B&W is a good choice . And this is the case here , that is very suitable for this amazing old ruin . The color version is fine , too , but I prefer this one .

Hi dear Beverly
A wonderful and so poetic deserted landscape via panfocus appraoch. So well considered framework and compoistion. B&W selection makes this image so vivid and adds moody atmosphere.
All the best and have a good day! Takero

Definitely the right call to post the B&W version. The color version looks a bit washed out and mid-day--this is evocative and moody. Is it just me, or is there a small dust spot about an inch above the left-most tower? Sorry to nitpick, I'm just paranoid about those in my own photos and I tend to notice them in others. But this is a nice picture overall.

Good morning Beverley,
The B&W works beautifully here, allow us to imagine an ancient times or an old movie about this.
Distinct details of the ruins and rocky field in the FG.
Best regards,
Ike

Hello Bev
A bit special, this one, and not just because of your choice of monochrome treatment, though of course that helps! On first seeing the thumbnail, I thought I was looking at a tor, perhaps on the Pennines or Dartmoor, but this craggy outline is clearly man-made; and probably man-destroyed as well. It's become a romantic and picturesque ruin, presumably much-beloved by the Victorians, but you've avoided the postcardy clichés by your excellent composition. All right: also by your choice of classy b/w! I'll admit I much prefer this to the colour W/S version, though that's probably more to do with my monochrome peccadillo.
Regards
Will

Hello Bev,
Your black and white picture is nice and attractive, but when I see the colour version, that I like it the colour image the most beautiful.
Long time ago this must are a lovely castle, the feudal time.
A very pleasant panorama view about the area, the black and white picture do me think to a moon landscape.
Composition and presentation are nice done.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,
John.

Hello Beverley,
Wow, what a contrast indeed with your previous photo. Both the B&W and the rocky landscape create an entirely different mood here. Great idea to post these two very different photos of the same place.

Hello Bev,
This black and white gives the right atmosphere that one expects of a English castle like this.
When the evening falls I think the old ghosts come alive and a new mysterious story begins.

Ciao Bev
eccellente versione in b&w per questo castello in rovina e per il circondario.
Le mura che rimangono sembrano far parte del terreno sassoso, come se l'uomo non fosse intervenuto in tutto questo.
Saluti

Hello Bev
I have been there with my daughter when I had no grand children, but we were looking some some sea birds colonies on the cliffs.
I feel your picture is dull, in fact there is no white value when you look at the histogram, so I propose you my version in a WS
Cheers

Hi Beverley!
It's so impressive from this pov, nothing else around, just an endless landscape and the wind. Beautiful shot and the b&w was surely a great choice!
