Photographer's Note

I have mentioned on numerous occasions before, that North East England has amazing opportunities for bridge photographers. Newcastle upon Tyne has several fantastic bridges one of them being Gateshead Millennium Bridge in this photo. This is a pedestrian bridge which can be open for ships to pass underneath it. However since the ships are rarely passing, it has fixed opening times over a year. Sometimes once daily, sometimes once weekly. The opening times are quite irregular but you can find them online. In the whole year there is only one day in spring and probably one in autumn when the bridge is open during blue hour time. Of course having a good weather on such a day is a matter of chance as well. I am not saying that photographing this bridge being open at the blue hour was entirely my idea. I have seen a postcard with such a photo and it inspired me to try. Well this was yesterday! I managed to get there in time. It was raining a lot on my way there but it stopped in Newcastle. The wind was terribly strong and most of my hundred photos were unsuccessful. But the excitement was incredible! I just have seen one more person with a tripod but he has chosen a different POV. The movement of bridge opening didn㦙 look in photos as good as I thought it would. Surprisingly for me after the bridge opened there was a little excursion boat passing underneath forth and then back. Photos with the boat were not sharp due to the wind though. Here you can spot two trails of moving light on the left along the river they are made by a little sailboat.

Quel beau pont. C'est vrai que l𡒶ngleterre en poss鋄e de tr鋊 beaux modernes et aux formes a廨iennes et l嶲鋨es. En plus, lorsqu'ils sont aussi mobiles, c'est le bonheur. Tr鋊 belle photo � l'heure bleue.

Only with the link to the other photo, I was able to comprehend how the bridge looks while in normal position, Marius.

I've been to Newcastle once, and I know the bridge, but my visit was too short to actually see the bridge. Great idea to take pictures here during one of these rare occasions and the result has turned out really well. Great sharpness and lighting and the bridge looks even more special now!

Modern bridges can be of an astonishing beauty and this bridge with its ingenious way to open is a splendid example of creativity and technical skills.
A little more expensive than a traditional bridge but you also have a great piece of art.
The WS is an excellent addition.

Swietna kompozycja, warto trafic tam w takim momencie. Trud dotarcia niewatpliwie oplacil sie bo zdjecie ma niepowtarzalny urok.

The Millennium bridge is really amazing and very modern.Excellent the clarity and the sharpness with the panoramic view in the WS to be very effective to understand someone it's whole construction.The blue hour of the photo makes the image even more attractive.

I'm glad you added a link to the closed bridge so that we could understand the technology as well as the beauty.

I have to admire your determination and your perseverance to capture the shots that you want.

Despite all the trials and tribulations, you have a achieved a fine, sharp, blue-hour shot of the bridge, which details the rocking nature of the bridge and gives it a surprising symmetry.
The artificial lights add mood and time to your well worked shot.

I'm glad you added in the other photo to show us how it looks normally, I was trying to figure it out myself but it was hard.

this is a very modern and funky looking bridge, and i love it!
great work from the architects to conjure up this idea.

I like your chosen POV, it smartly includes the bg city life as well, i think thats important as it puts everything into correct perspective.

the blue hour lighting was a total bonus, good for you to capture it at this time, I think you came away with a winner, don't you?

A fantastic composition to the blue hour, with that bridge so novel and attractive, the background of the city is quite normal, but our view is pretty with the beautiful bridge.
Very nice colorful in tones, very attractive.

Hello Mariusz,
I also looked at your other photo for which you provided a link (I had already seen that photo before).
Still, I'm having a hard time understanding how the bridge moves from one position to another. Is there a video on the internet showing the opening of the bridge to the ships or its closing? Maybe it's because of a lack of technical competence that I can't imagine that.
Of course, this does not affect the quality of your photo.
