Edinburgh's best views can be had from Calton Hill, a historic hill sitting right next to the city centre, with expansive views all over the city. Standing here at dusk gives one a chance to see the city's most iconic sights light up, fronted by the distinctive clock tower of the neo-gothic Balmoral hotel, and backed by the hulking mass of the ancient Castle. The scene is straight out of Victorian era fantasy.
