Colours of Late Autumn, a photo from Scottish Borders, Scotland

Photographer's Note

What remarkable differences we see in our countryside, landscapes and wildlife as the seasons change! I was idly looking through some photographs which I had taken during my regular Wednesday country walks with friends and came across this photograph taken in late November, 2017.

This late autumn picture was actually taken only a very few yards away from my last picture but it was also taken looking backwards along the way we had walked.

A glorious calm autumn day - but no fresh green leaves on the trees now and no bright flowers beside the paths - just the golden leaves of late autumn lit by the warm low-angled sun streaming through the trees while two lady walkers head towards us.

ISO 100, 1/100 sec at f/6.3, focal length 55mm.

Hello dear John, This passage between the high trees looks like the interior of the cathedral. It was a glorious day. Wonderful light. Nice view of these two ladies with the northern walking sticks. Have you invited these ladies to join you?

Hello John,
I see that Malgo also referred to this view as looking like a cathedral of trees. That idea struck me immediately. They look as tall and impressive as the pillars of a Gothic cathedral. The light falls wonderfully in the nearer part and the two ladies are perfectly placed. No ladies in red, but not very far from it.

Hello John,

There is an amazing contrast between the two photographs.

The light is this photograph is sublime.
It creates golden, highlighted places, deep, extended shadows and a whole range of shades in between!
Your view down the path, encourages to follow it, where the couple, strongly placed, offer a vibrancy of colours, quite different from the rich, autumnal colours.

It's a beautiful picture!
No wonder you were eager to share it.

Hello John,
I recently visited an exhibition with paintings that David Hockney made of nature, many of them featured landscapes like this one with tall trees on both sides of a narrow path, so your photo immediately reminded me of them. The light was wonderful and added some nicely-saturated, warm colours to the picture. The two ladies in pink and purple look so small in between the majestic trees. Excellent photo.

C'est presque rendu l'hiver si je me fie aux v皻ements de ces dames. Les feuilles sont toutes au sol et l'air est d'une grande puret�. Quel bel endroit pour prendre une marche.

Hello John, the sunlight is the star of your picture as it highlights the trees and the two women in their pink/purple outfits.
The shadows are another lovely feature.
As we look down the tree lined avenue it becomes a shadowy corridor, lovely.

Oh John, this is a beauty! Not sure why you waited so long to post this shot, its super lit, warm and gets our attention right away in this vertical format. In this view its very welcoming, but in some circumstances, i bet it could look very haunting in the right atmosphere. Love the depth and the warmth despite it being in the fall season. lovely shot my friend, looks great. cheers

Hi John,great prospect,the trees seems too big from this POV! A very nice memory of late autumn,when the green is gone and just some dead leaves remains on the branches,the light warm up the colors in a perfect way,i like it! Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano
