Photographer's Note
Yesterday I went for my usual weekly country walk with a friend and we tramped along snowy forest tracks for about eight miles or so and the weather was cold but, remarkably, it was dry this day.
In the forest we came across this frozen pond - you can see the location if you click on View:Map - and this seemed a rather picturesque little place to stop and eat our sandwiches. And not another soul in sight for miles around.

Hello John,
It is the fine detail that makes your photograph so very pleasing.
To see, so well, the spiky moorland grasses thrusting through the snow and trying to split the icy, pond surface gives that understanding of the place and the conditions.
I like how you have restricted the depth, using the surrounding trees to keep attention on the pond.
The exposure is very good, giving good colour and sharpness on what was obviously quite a dull day.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hello John,
Although quite a nice scenery the colours are the most striking features of this photo. I like the fine tones of green, white, yellow (or maybe I should say brown) and the grayish ice. It's a neatly composed photo with the snowy ground encircling the pond and patches of green and yellow (brown?) seen above the ice. The weather seems to have been quite good and the light was very favourable.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello John,
Lovely spot for an impromptu picnic. I like the point of view across the length of this frozen lake. The light was not of the best, nevertheless everything can be seen in perfect detail and the colours come together to form a harmonious whole.

Hi John
first of all, sorry for the late reply...I was away from TE for a few days.
this could very well be any local area near where I live, especially when I look at the surrounding trees in your shot.
not exactly the best looking sky, but what can you do in these weather conditions right? not your fault :)
the highlight has to be the snow, the semi-frozen low water, the meandering bog that snakes its way through the scene, and just the overall winter-scene.
very pleasing, especially that you shared it with a friend.
enjoy your day
Craig

Hi John
It also looks like a rather cold page to stop for a snack, I hope you had a flak of hot tea with you too! Is a very picturesque place and the snow adds a nice mood, a nice chilly mood. We may see snow in Ireland this year yet too, it's gotten bitterly cold here this week
Best wishes
Noel

Hello John
Beautifully sharp, beautifully natural colours, beautifully composed. It proves to me that if you take the trouble to get it right in the camera, you don't need to fiddle about with Photoshop or similar. But then like me, you think of film as what we were using only yesterday, and the lessons persist. Good thing too!
Regards
Will

Ciao John
non si tratta del paesaggio primaverile con la sua bella e luminosa luce, ma il paesaggio è bellissimo in ugual modo, la neve ci offre una visione diversa del luogo che conserva ancora tutto il suo fascino.
Saluti

Hello John
A balmy +7c here in Bulgaria at the moment but that is set to change with continuing snowfalls and a forecast of -14c on Monday. A good exposure here on the white highlights and the diffused light is pleasant. This reminds me of mirror lake in Canada which was completely frozen over. I had enough sense or self survival instinct not to try and walk on it! Tfs!

Hi John,
so you have quite a lot of snow already! We got some first snow yesterday and more will come in the next days. I hate the snow because the traffic is terrible then but my daughter would like to experience some and to make a snowman.
Beautiful landscape shot here, the wintry decoration is fantastic. The pond seems to be frozen as well so it must have been really cold.
For the first time I hear about Canon M. I have checked it right away, it looks cute. It may be quite good for travelling light!
Excellent work!
Have a great weekend!

Hello John, although I do not really like going out in the snow too much, I do enjoy looking at pictures of wintry weather.
The icy pond makes the picture feel even colder with its opaque surface.
I like the way that you have used the fg edges of the pond to create a 'V' which keeps the eyes focused on the pond and beyond.
Excellent depth of field.
Lovely natural colours.
Regards Jean.

Hello,
A rather cold looking place to eat your sandwiches John! However, it must have been worth the effort to get such a super photo and experience this wilderness. The grasses and reeds poking up through the water and snow are lovely.
A beautiful image in every way.
Kind Regards, Ann
