Wednesdays are when I go on regular country walks with a small group of friends and yesterday proved a little more of a challenge than most occasions.
Unfortunately quite heavy snow and blustery winds of over 40 mph caused blizzard conditions which started to make progress a little less than pleasant. Here we pause for while to make a decision, the upshot of which was that we should not continue on our planned 6 mile walk to a reservoir across open country but should change our route and continue in the shelter of a forest. That did mean that we had to cross by the fence through the blizzard to the distant tree line you see here - but we made it!
Then eventually back to a local café for a welcome bowl of hot soup. :)

Hello John,
Does not look the sort of weather at all for a country walk, but it seems you made it back safe and sound. Your fellow walkers are well placed in the frame and make for a dynamic composition. The wintry conditions are very well evoked with the swirling snow partially masking the trees.

Hi John, very very cold in the british region as i can see there and in the pics of Beverly too, obviously isn't the best weather to walk, but it's a great opportunity to take fantastic pics like that, magnificent view made by snow and blizzard, made in the usual top quality...my best compliments for your succesfull attempt crossing the tree line...ehehe..have a nice day! Hello John,
Even without the note this photo convinces me that it was a bitterly cold day. The snow blowing all over the field illustrates the unpleasant conditions well. Your friends are clearly not enthusiastic at the idea of continuing in the open area. There is a good contrast between the relative safety at the forest edge and the strong winds to the left. It is an ideal photo to be watched in the comfort of a warm room.
Kind regards,
Gert
PS Tonight Arsenal FC will play a football game in Östersund in the mountainous north of Sweden, where the temperature is well below zero. Sounds crazy.

Hello John,
I think you made the right decision! It is surprising just how bad conditions become when the wind is blowing, the chill factor certainly has a huge effect.
Your photograph perfectly captured the mood of icy winds, whipping up the snow like grains of sand.
Your pondering friends, safely sheltering under the canopy of branches, add to the atmosphere and are strongly positioned in the composition.
It's a very well taken photograph, deep textures, fine details and full of atmosphere.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Bonjour John,
J'aime beaucoup cette car je vis cette situation à tous les jours très froid de l'hiver. Je n'ai jamais eu l'idée pourtant de la mettre en scène et ici, c'est très bien fait.
Amicalement

Hello John,
The conditions do seem pretty harsh here, but they make a great photo. The snow getting blown away by the strong wind adds a wonderful white layer in front of the trees. The composition is excellent, the two men looking our over the white field are well placed in the right hand side.

Hello John, I am happy that you go again with your friends with cameras, and no blizzard make it you stay at home. Nice view of the guys with the nord walking sticks. Charming wither composition. We have a very thin layer of snow. They foresee that the next week the real winter comes to Warsaw.
Kind regrads Malgo

Hi John
i'll answer your questions & write a reply on my newest drone photo after I look at this one.
Good for you guys! You didn't give up. Not too many people would go the distance and carry onwards, good on ya. I have to hand it to you, as a photographer I probably wouldn't have even thought of taking photos like this during the walk, but look how good it turned out.
Its a great memory for you and your friends, and now for us too. I like how they're standing far away, as if they don't want to fall over the edge of a cliff or something hahaha
its got that feeling to the scene. really like their pink faces too :)
What's planned for next wednesday?
cheers

Hello John
I wished I could have joined you. I like the snow and cold weather condition for a challenging country walk and a well-deserved reward in the local pub. Great picture with your two friends discussing the best road to follow.
Excellent work
Have a good weekend, groet Rob

Hello John, we can really feel the cold as we look at your two friends discussing the route that you are going to take.
An excellent composition.
The snow being blown about softens the background so that it takes on the feel of a painting.
The overhanging branches frame the two men nicely.
Lovely work, even if you had to freeze to get the picture! All in the name of photography.
Regards Jean.

Olá, John!
A foto ficou bem legal! A atmosfera criada passa a sensação de frio, com a neve a névoa. Contraste bonito na foto, boa profundidade e ótimo enquadramento com os galhos na lateral direita.
Boa foto!

Hi John,
brilliant scene. Your two friends make a huge difference. Without them it may have been too boring.
They add a feeling of action and adventure. You could easily lie that it was taken on the way to the North Pole.
You are very persistent in your walks which I sincerely admire. Last weekend I had some difficult choice to make: I choose to stay at home. The weather was too bad for me to go outside...
But looking at this photo I can say: sometimes it is worth it!
Excellent work,
M

Hello, John!
Really a hard weather in this scene, but the photographers are there, ready to take advantage of that, and they are a perfect focal point in your photo, making a very nice contrast with the snow! Beautiful composition! Well done!
