Photographer's Note
I now discover that I have effectively been absent from TE for almost a year - and I have missed not only all my "old" friends but also the pleasure of viewing so many lovely photographs from around our beautiful World.
I have no excuse for not having been active on TE for so long, other than that I have been a bit busy with other things and have also been trying to be a little more active and get a little fitter too.
Hence this picture - taken in February as, together with a couple of equally ancient friends, I approached the summit of Tinto Hill (711 metres or 2333 feet) through thick mist on a bitterly cold and windy day. Not a particularly high hill, but we had a fine feeling of achievement on reaching the top!
ISO 100, 1/250 sec at f/10, focal length 47mm.
And now, of course, just after I clicked the "Upload" button, I remember how infuriating this website can be - as my note disappears off without trace to some galaxy beyond Andromeda. Oh dear, it's all coming back to me now. Never mind, let's try again and, if I can manage to remember what to do, I might just try to add another picture as a workshop.
Ah, ha, I think I have managed to add a couple of workshop pictures - one of the cairn and direction indicator on the hilltop and another of a group of hillwalkers at the top.

Hello John,
It's so good to see that you have come out of hibernation though, to be true, it is almost the time of year to begin hibernation!
Seriously though, it is good to see you back on TE!
You have already experienced one of the intermittent problems with the site but we are resilient!
I think you must be resilient to have undertaken such a journey!
Your photograph reveals the bitter weather conditions, especially with the reduced visibility on the uphill slope.
I like the inclusion of the fence, acting like a guide but also, disappearing into the gathering mist.
It's a fine photograph, full of atmosphere and very steady considering the effects of the temperature on your hands!!
Looking forward to many more photographs,
Bev :-)

Ciao John
Buona domenica

Hi John
So you're back on TE after 11 months of silence! Welcome back!
It should be hard to climb this snowy mountain in the mist, hard to find the path to reach the top, hard to have a break at the summit in the wind, even with a hot tea. But when you come home, you are happy
Cheers

It was so cold and snowy in Scotland during all that time ! ;)
Nice to see you back on TE with a moody picture of this winter walk .

Hello John,
Finally you found a photo to show us. This looks just as cold and dark and miserable as anywhere in Sweden in winter. I can understand the satisfaction and pleasure felt when you finally made it to the summit after a steep trek in this weather. If it wasn't for the fence it might have been easy to get lost in this fog. The fence also makes a good lead into the photo until it is lost halfway up, just beyond your half hidden friend. The other friend of yours is well placed in the foreground, where he provides the only colourful spot in this fascinating grey haze.
Kind regards,
Gert
PS I saw this photo last night, before you had added the workshops, so now I forgot to look for them. Now I have seen them and they are both interesting photos, the one with the hillwalkers even looking quite cosy.

Hello John,
Good to see you back on TE. This is a great impression of your hike to the top of the hill. The conditions look pretty harsh with this snow and mist. I like the composition a lot with the two people and the fence on right very all well placed in the photo.

Hello John,
Good to see you posting again, your pictures are always worthy of interest. The image is well composed with the two walkers joined by an imaginary diagonal line and the fence supplying a lead-line into the misty background. Perfectly exposed to capture the mood; the cold is quite palpable.

Hello John, it looks SO cold!
I like the atmosphere as the leading walker disappears into the mist.
It could almost be assumed to be monochrome.
I like the two additional shots; your friends enjoying well earned refreshment, and the snow blown cairn.(The snow has a feathery pattern.)
Yes, occasionally the frustration of a note disappearing into the ether! A nuisance but never mind.
Best wishes Jean.

Hello John,
The prodigal son is back, I am happy.
I hope that the winter fits long wait to coming, I am a summer man.
The snow and misty atmosphere makes your picture very attractive.
Pleasant panorama too.
Excellent composition and nice presentation too.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John

Hello John,
I am happy to see you again. How fast the time flies, difficult to believe that it is almost a year since your last pictures. As to TE, still many things are not fixed (and they will never be). It happens often that the note disappears specially when it has not been saved. Not a high hill with 771 m but in these weather conditions is like climbing high mountains. How brave are these intrepid hillwalkers. Nice the pictures in Workshops
Have a nice new week

Hi John
well look who's back! welcome back to TE and its frustrations, just think, what other photo website has such problems - TE is very unique that way hahaha.
you were brave to head out into this experience, was the weather like that when you started or did it just kinda creep up on ya? I know the local weather there has a habit of doing just that.
I like how we can't even see very far, not far beyond the person higher up in the frame. well done, I'm sure you shared good stories and good laughs.
As for the notes, what I do now is I post the photo with only 2 or 3 sentences...then post it. If the note gets posted, i'll just 'edit' it and add my full note right away...if the note doesn't get posted it ALWAYS will when you add and 'edit' it after...not a big deal. Live and learn!
lovely photo with this atmosphere and personal experience, I like the blue tones and story. cheers my friend
cheers

Hello John
Great so see your back at this nice but imperfect place. You three picture gives a perfect symbolic image of the TE-situation.
The main picture: TE-members desperate searching for a new post.
First workshop: TE-members disappointed by another failed attempt to upload a picture.
Second workshop: The frozen TE-database.
But maybe this makes it all so interesting. Why else are these men facing these elements.
Ha, ha, I really hope you won’t wait another year for your next post.
Have a good week
Groet Rob

Olá, John!
Adorei essa foto, ela ficou realmente muito legal! O efeito esfumaçado que ela ganhou é incrível. A distância entre as pessoas é boa para a foto.
Bom trabalho!

One thing I envy people living in the north of this country (and anywhere else in Europe really) is the weather - the fact that it's different in winter than in summer, autumn etc. Here, in the south you can hardly tell whether it's July or March without checking the calendar...
Anyway, nice series of three photos from your walk, incorporating differents genre and styles: portrait, adventure, detail. All united by snow and frost.
Have a nice evening
Kasia
Ps. You expressed everyone's frustrution with the site in your note. My sentiments precisely.

Hi John,
I laughed reading your note! So funny! This site is indeed quite annoying and yet addictive.
Just few hours ago I have uploaded a photo and its miniature icon on the beta site is still not visible.
I wrote a long complain on the forum which I know will be ignored :)
Anyway, as long as you became fit and healthier I can forgive you your absence, just promise never do that again :)
Interesting reportage from a trail. So much snow!. Interesting effect with the decreasing visibility. People and the fence play such an important role here.
Very well done!!
