Photographer's Note

Travelling about as I do, you pitch up wherever you do, and take the day as it comes.
Monmouth was a Monday, and it was raining !

But you do find some interesting things. Like this bridge. Part of the original medieval fortifications, this gated bridge is the only remaining example in Britain.

But the weather was unfavourable, and my first choice for posting is demoted to WS, as a rain spot hit the lens and spoilt it. However this view from in the town looking out serves as well.

And the title ? Well, stuck in the back of my mind is the title of a film from the sixties, and it often comes to the fore when rushing about, feeling overwhelmed with changes and choices. It sounds right in my head, ( append location to suit ! ) and gives some small sense of stability !

Hello Martin,

This is a very interesting trio of pictures which you have uploaded and a fine note to boot!

I have to agree with you that your workshop picture (taken from the other side of the bridge) is probably superior to this picture (apart from the raindrop), mainly on account of its more pleasing composition, but this is a fine one nonetheless. And your second workshop picture provdes a fine authentic description.

Many are the occasions in this country when I find my lens hood less useful for guarding against lens flare in bright sunlight and much more valuable in protecting the lens against rain! And very often I find that I am totally unaware that a raindrop has ruined an image until I look at it on the computer screen - they're not easily seen in the viewfinder nor, for that matter, on the camera's LCD.

Such has been the weather of late that I really haven't been out taking pictures since Christmas - very mild, wet, dark, windy and miserable. Oh for better weather!
