Photographer's Note
Okay, so not much going for this photographically speaking, but maybe better on the learning about the world front.
And, anyway, it quite amused me when I saw it, and I just knew I would have to post it... ( answers on a postcard etc etc... !! )
For all that, Traquair was an important place in its day, loosely the 12th century. It was during a visit to Traquair House, or Palace as it was then known, that William I of Scotland granted a charter for the erection of a burgh with the power to hold markets every Thursday.
That burgh today is known as Glasgow.
More here about its history, and other images and more about its environs in WS.

Hello Martin,
How delightful that you found this place on your recent "trek" through the Scottish Borders. But, why oh why, did you not get in touch and come to see us - this place isn't all that far from where we live - probably just about 35 miles! Last time I drove through here was last year in my little Austin!
Did you visit Traquair House? I must confess to not having explored that place myself - I believe it might be the house in Scotland which has been the longest occupied by the same family. And did you stop to admire this delightful little jewel which sits just at the roadside in Traquair and which you can also see here?
This picture from the Scottish Borders will, of course, have "yellowed" a large portion of the lower part of your map of Scotland but it is also a delightfully colourful picture with fabulous depth of field (no doubt on this occasion secured by the use of your small-sensor compact camera - you certainly would not have achieved such depth of field at f/4 with your 5D!).
Lovely spring colours (for spring does now appear eventually to arrived here), the cow seemingly happily munching the fresh grass, strong composition and excellent sharpness.
Lovely!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hi Martin,
Your map is almost fullfilled. I am so impressed. Especially because you have so many counties in the UK. In Poland it would be much easier. Ah just to remind you: UK has also some areas which are not on the map like British Virgin Islands etc...
This here is very very creative. I would never thought about it without you pointing out the similarity with the changed spelling. Very well spotted! The creativity is definitely sometimes needed if someone takes a challenge like that. I am not even trying anymore to colour the map. I don't earn enough for the necessary fuel and traveling in bad weather is unpleasant for me so I have just few days per year for trips around the country :( I did recently a trip to a new county but still struggle to pick a photo which would be worth of TrekEarth.
Kind regards,
M
