P.S.V., a photo from Aberdeen, Scotland

Photographer's Note

When I was a lad a p.s.v. was a 'bus. Well to be sure, then I only knew them as 'buses. Only later did I know them to be public service vehicles. Perhaps it was the modern predilection for three letter acronyms that elevated them from mere 'buses.

These days, or at least if your outlook is maritime, you are more likely to think of platform service vessels.

Aberdeen harbour seems to abound in them, for most of the vessels in this picture are they. The North Sea is punctured like a pomander with oil wells and gas pipes, all serviced from the surface by a rig or platform, which in turn are nannied by all these P.S.V.s

Where did all the fishing boats go ?

WS show the main two in close up as they entered the harbour.

Great composition using the white, red, and blue colors against the gray harbor and sky. May I ask -- was this as the camera captured it or has the saturation been dialed up a bit? I'm just curious! As a newcomer to PP, adjusting saturation fascinates me. I'm usually guilty of overdoing it, but I am also discovering the merits of pulling it back at times, too.

This panoramic view is splendid . Interesting , too , but especially beautiful for the contrast between "flashy" red and blue , against the grey sky and sea .

orange and blue color is so atrative from the thumbnail and the grey clouds makes an excellent contrast!

Hi Martin,
I like very much the dark atmosphere you captured here. Dark clouds and yet well lit centre of the stage. Blue and red colors stick out of the image indeed. Nice panorama. I hope I can visit this area in the future as well.
