Photographer's Note
This small boy was having great fun collecting crabs with his mother in the small coastal town of Blakeney. The harbour silted up over the years so that it no longer acts as a commercial seaport although small pleasure boats have access. The harbour and surrounding marshes are owned by the National Trust (please see my last post for more dtail about this organisation). Trips from Blakeney can be taken to Blakeney Point to view the seal colony.

Hi Ann,
I think that your photo translates instantly the fascination of the the apprentice fisherman for its catch.
This image is all about emotion, discovery and what it is to be a kid, and that spontaneous moment needed to be caught at the right time, which is what you have accomplished perfectly. Light is very good, I like the neutral background and the posture of the boy. His jersey is reflecting the linear pattern on the deck, which is a bonus.
Great work!

Good Morning dear Ann - This is such a wonderful candid shot. It encapsulates the wonder that children display when discovering the world about them. This little chap's whole being is clearly focused on hos catch. This reminds me of the quality of the small girl in the lavender field that you posted and to my mind you have a real talent for candid child photography. I expect you have some great shots of your granddaughter if this is anything to go by. Top class work here. Warm regards Rosemary

Good Morning Ann,
What a charming photograph!
You must have been beaming with delight when you saw this little boy, so involved in this activity! That is the beauty of children, they are so focussed, so animated that, for a few minutes, nothing exists outside their sphere. You have captured that moment so well! We want to share it with him, to peep into the net and relive childhood!
A wonderfully composed shot, everything in the right place, fine textural details, a perfectly judged dof and natural colours.
I love it!!
Thanks for this, you've brightened a grey day,
Bev :-)

Hello Ann,
Now this is what boyhood should be all about!
You have caught this moment wonderfully well, the boy standing out beautifully against a nicely out of focus background which has no distracting features whatsoever. And, of course, the bright colours of his shirt also help to "lift" him away from the background.
Your composition is pleasing and also obeys the "rules" very well with a strong connection between the boy's gaze and the captured crabs in his net as well as the physical line between his right hand and the net. And, very cleverly, you have included his simple fishing reel at bottom right and that, together with the boy's gaze and his net, helps make a fine triangle whose lower side is accentuated by the lines of the slats of the jetty on which he is standing.
Lovely light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
Fabulous!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. To reiterate my feelings about the excellent composition in this picture, I am reminded of the excellent workshops which one of my favourites here, Peter (graffer), used to perform on other people's photographs. Unfortunately Peter has not been very active on TE for some time but if you have time I think you would really enjoy having a dekko at his "Composition Analysis Workshop Theme". If I were cleverer with image editing, I'd love to "have a go" at that with this picture. In fact, if I have a spare moment, I might just try later on!
P.P.S. And what makes this picture even more appealing to me is the fact that just two weeks ago we were blessed with a second grandson! :o)

Hi Ann,
A superb daily life shot from this quaint fishing village. Good sharpness / shallow dof and the boy's look of concentrated focus on the crab trap is well captured. Good colour and saturation and the vertical format was a good choice. The blue and pale yellow red colors contrast well. Have a nice weekend!

Hi dear Ann
What a gorgeous little man, that look of expectation on his face is priceless. Stunning definition and beautiful skin tones. The cherry on the cake, so to speak, is that the little bloke actually caught his crab in the end. Wonderful shot, which evokes the innocence and wonder of childhood so beautifully. PS: I love his blue crocs too!
Warmest wishes

Hi Ann,
A very well composed picture! The stripes in the shirt is nicely combined with the "stripes" along the jetty. I can fully enjoy the excitement the boy must feel here, catching crabs! Did he just release them or did someone cook them for him afterwards?
Kind regards
Gunnar

Ciao Ann
Complimenti
Ciao e buon fine settimana

Hi Ann
Mucking about looking for small critters in the mud. Ah! that's the joy of crabbing brings back a lot of happy childhood memories Ann. What summer is all about and this looks fun nice to see kid enjoying and learning himself as the same time. Love this very natural shot with the deep concentration enjoying the simple pleasures of seaside life and that he is completely unaware that he is the focus of your lens going in close...
This is beautifully composed, brilliant detail wonderful colour and light as this photo gives a very very warm feeling....
Simple delight, My congrats
