Happy New Year!, a photo from London, England

Photographer's Note

Snowfall in Hampton Common. The image was taken in January 2013 and we have not had snow in London since. January 2014 was the wettest winter month in over 200 years and three times wetter than average (according to the Guardian).

The pink-orange colour in the sky is not sunset or sunrise glow but the result of light pollution. On this occasion I didn't mind!

In WS a photo of the same tree taken in November.

Witaj Kasiu, Sliczne zdjecie w czasie śniezycy, urocze te płatki sniegu. Piekne drzewo, i ja tez nie mam nic przeciwko zanieczyszczeniu powietrza w tym momencie, jesli takie sa kolory. W Warszawie zresztą tez w nocy jest zblizony kolor. Wszystkiego najlepszego w 2015

That's heavy snowfall kinda fairytale image of winter! I love this picture, the light-pollution you mentioned has created such a nice colour effect and atmosphere. I'm fascinated by those sparkling big flakes coming down - no blurriness at all and so descriptive. Fabulous caught in the moment shot. Congrats :))

A Happy New Year to you too, Kasia, and what an amazing photo this is. The snowflakes give a cosy atmosphere to what could have been almost a bit spooky because of the weird polluted colours and the naked tree. It's a great seasonal greetings card with a difference.

This is amazing, whoever thought that light pollution could create such an amazing effect, and like you, I would be delighted if it made this magical orange hue in the sky! It is like a scene from a fairytale, in fact it feels like I have just stepped out into Narnia, especially with these beautiful globes of snowflakes in the immediate vicinity of the lens. Truly wonderful result, thanks for sharing.

Widok prawie jak rodzime deby w Rogalinie- z calym szacunkiem dla Twojej fotografii te nadwarcianskie sa bardziej klimatyczne , moze starsze , a moze po prostu piekniejsze.
Za to nastroj tutaj super uchwycony, choc jak widac tez w WS nie jedno imie ma to drzewo.

And the same to you! This is a classic snow shot. The orange glow from the street lighting gives a slightly surreal feel to the image, but it's not an unpleasant effect. Hope you had a good Christmas and New Year. Maybe bump into you in 2015!

Hi Kasia,
You could not imagine this picture was token in London ! A composition full of poetry with the snow flakes everywhere. The tree is well outcentered. And the orange light in the background adds a great atmosphere. Just a shame to think this is because of pollution.
