Photographer's Note
Another picture taken two weeks ago during the same walk as this shot, but now returning to the little town of Peebles after an enjoyable eight mile walk along the banks of the River Tweed.
Quite a dull and overcast day but I still liked the autumn colours in this lovely part of the Scottish Borders.
ISO 100, 1/125 sec at f/7.1, focal length 39mm.

Hello John,
This is a truly magnificent photo of the rooftops of the town and the autumn colours of the gentle hills of the surrounding scenery. You have wisely included some human presence and activity (and a dog) in the foreground, and a path leading us downhill. The sharpness is admirable, which is best proved by the larger version, and the colours are intense, yet very mild, under the grey sky. I have to add this to my favourites (which I can still watch by switching to the beta site; who knows for how long).
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello John,
The clouds may be grey, but the landscape is full of the some of the most beautiful colours nature has to offer. The autumn trees have such a wealth of yellow, orange, brown and green tones, spread so nicely across the gentle hills and interspersed with the roofs of the town. The people and the small dog in the foreground enliven the composition, too.

Hello John,
A truly delightful autumnal composition. The human activity in the foreground nicely counterbalances the buildings of the town well placed in the mid distance. Ideally exposed with superb colours and clarity despite the grey sky. A pure delight for the eyes.

Hello John ,
Despite of the clouds and the quite poor light , this is a wonderful autumn scene , in this beautiful countryside , with the little town and its slated roofs nestled in the valley .
Regards.
PS : about your comments about my "Port de Soller II" picture , this was a early morning light . The evening one is slightly different . I will post an other picture ;)

Hello John,
This is a beautiful photograph which welcomes our attention.
Along with your title, we recognise the walkers, dressed to combat the cold, returning after a long walk.
The pathway guides towards the figures and the open gate allows us to join them.
In front, there is the most welcoming vista of warm hues and snuggling houses, it's not difficult to imagine a welcoming cafe, with warm drinks or a pub with a blazing fire.
An excellent narrative evoked by your well composed, detailed photograph.
Have a lovely w/e,
Bev :-)

Hi John
Beautiful landscaped further enhanced by autumn foliage. You don't really need a lot of sunshine to take a great photo as the colours are warm and bright as it is. I like the fact you captured details of the grey clouds, a lot of people would go for a lighter look with burnt out sky.
The people add context and a sense of scale. Great timing to introduce some action rather than just create static "figure in the landscape" shot.
Best wishes
Kasia

Ciao John
paesaggio incantevole, nel nord Europa i colori autunnali sono arrivati prima che in Toscana e il panorama è colorato dai toni caldi tipici del periodo.
Buona domenica

Hi John
wasn't expecting to see a new photo from you so soon, but hey I'm not complaining! Eight hour walk huh? thats a good haul, about 12-13km. I know i mentioned it in my previous posts of yours, but the overcast atmosphere makes the city that much better. I just hope you didn't get rained on too much. loving that bank of autumn rust colour in the middle of the frame, running horizontally, and the fence in the lower portion. your shot is crisp and clear as always John, looks great. cheers

Hello dear John, Delightful picture! Nice village amidst the forest, with the similar roofs and the tower dominating the town. Marvelous colours of the autumn forest, not important the dull sky. What a fantastic walk you have. But what I like here the most? This is the scene with the opening of the wooden gate. It is so typical of England. It evokes memories of my trip (and meeting, of course). Have a nice Sunday

Hello John, what a delightful scene. The autumn colours add to the enjoyment of viewing the picture.
It is the presence of the walkers at the gate that really bring the shot to life, an excellent focal point.
Excellent depth of field.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Hi John,
what a beautiful autumn. Or rather in spite of the overcast you have managed to capture it beautifully!!
The colors are so eye catching!
We see a nice scene happening in the foreground with the dog in the centre of attention and a beautiful panorama of Peebles further in the distance.
Both you ad your camera make spectacular photos under difficult light conditions.
Knowing my camera and/or myself I know I will not be able to do that so well.
Very attractive multi layered and multi colored composition.
Pleasure to look at.
Have a great Sunday,
M

Hello John
A lovely combination of this beautiful autumn landscape around Peebles (funny name) and some human action with these people passing one of these hashed, so characteristic for the famous footpath of the United Kingdom.
A splendid scene for a Sunday morning atmosphere.
Have a nice Sunday. Groet Rob

Hi John.
What a pearler this is. Even without the figures at the gate this would be a very pleasing autumnal scene. Great range of warm colours and a gentle light on the fields and hillsides. The several layers of depth with Peebles nestled into the shallow valley are very well realised. But the timing of this shot was exquisite, freezing the momentary action at the gate, to which the eye is led immediately along the beaten path in the foreground. A delightful photo.

Andrew
