Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (brand name Kew) is a non-departmental public body in the United Kingdom sponsored by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. An internationally important botanical research and education institution, it employs 723 staff (FTE). Its board of trustees is chaired by Marcus Agius,a former chairman of Barclays.

The organisation manages botanic gardens at Kew in Richmond upon Thames in southwest London, and at Wakehurst Place, a National Trust property in Sussex which is home to an internationally important Millennium Seed Bank, whose scientists work with partner organisations in more than 95 countries.Seed stored at the bank fulfils two functions: it provides an ex-situ conservation resource and also facilitates research around the globe by acting as a repository for seed scientists. Kew, jointly with the Forestry Commission, founded Bedgebury National Pinetum in Kent, specialising in growing conifers.

The organisation has an average of 1 million paying visitors per year. Its 326-acre site at Kew has 40 historically important buildings and collections of over 40,000 species of plants and it became a United Nations World Heritage Site on 3 July 2003.

Winter sunshine is a moment to chrish, and this kind of light you had whem visiting this magnificent park.
Immediately the reflection caught my sight, colors over water and the real view marvelously collected.

Hello Danos,
A beautiful light coming from one side and quite calm water provide a very pretty picture.
Only minor distortions in the very clear reflections.
Nice with the difference between the trees in the shade and those in full sunlight.
Also a good combination of warm and cold tones.

You had a fantastic weather for late December. The building and the trees glow marvellously in the bright light and are just as perfectly reflected in the lake. It's a well balanced photo and technically superb.

A restful image in such brill weather and colours when the side lighting indicates a well chosen time of day. The backdrop sets off nicely as main feature with delicious water detail holds as firm focal. Excellent, Congrats.

What an amazing view over the pond towards this beautiful house. The light was fantastic and gave such a wonderful, golden hue to the photo. The reflections are gorgeous as well of course and very nicely distorted in the small ripples.

Hello Danos,

It is a long time since I visited Kew so this is an attractive reminder of the gardens.
You had a particularly sunny day, for December, which really worked in your favour, for the low sun created these almost mirror-like reflections on the lake.
The colours are most attractive in this fine composition.

Beautiful view of this garden in view, one of the many attractive garden in England. I like this image better than you next upload of the garden for in my opinion the colours are brighter and the composition better with the building more prominent in the scene. I like it that we can compare these views.
