Giant Crocodile Eats Truck......, a photo from South Lanarkshire, Scotland

Just a bit of harmless fun today.

This is a little picture taken during a fine winter walk around Camps Reservoir in southern Scotland with my walking pals. A small green truck had passed by us on the rough track around the reservoir and so you can imagine our surprise when, a short time after, we saw the truck about to be swallowed by this giant crocodile!

I have to confess that it was not I but actually one of my companions who first spied how the snow covering of the distant hillside, the tree line and the reflections in the calm water all came together to produce this interesting illusion.

ISO 100, 1/160 sec at f/8, focal length 29mm.

Hahaha, it is fantastic observation and title. Maybe in miniature this effect is even better. Amazing illusion. But apart of this, The picture is beautiful with a bit of snow on the slopes, wonderful reflections, charming lighht. And the truck that in the moment will be eaten is a cherry on the cake.

Amazingly, John, my first reaction before opened the thumbnail was exactly about this imaginary crocodile.
Beautiful reflection collected from the other side of the lake/reservoir. Stunning the separated forest slope with snow, and the light-green truck superbly scale the scene.

Hello John,

I was fearful that prehistoric monsters had actually been seen in other areas of Scotland!

It really is a fine photograph, with excellent reflections of the snow-covered hilside edged by conifer forests. You had a lovely winter's day, with a low sun, perfect for photography.
The illusion is perfect!
The tiny van does appear to be entering a gigantic, gaping mouth!
A great communal spotting exercise!!

Lovely title, beautiful and amusing composition. Perfectly illuminated with superb colours and exceptional clarity. The reflections are quite beguiling.
I have to confess I prefer my perspectives corrected, one of my many foibles I guess. Though I realise others are not bothered and there are occasions when the correction just does not work.

It took me a moment...! Harmless fun aside, this is a really strong, and graphic landscape. The truck, although small, has an important role to play in the composition. Needless to say, we've had no snow at all down here.

Even without the splendid title this picture with its perfect reflection would be amazing. But if you see the impression of the title in the scene the picture gets a new dimension.

Hi John,
The title is hilarious! Excellent autumn light. Shallow layer of snow adds luminosity nicely. Luckily that truck has bright green colour. Otherwise it would be almost invisible.

Hi John,
very funny title, which makes us to stare deeper into this beautiful composition. Very well spotted! I noticed the crocodile which you mentioned in the miniature but to see the truck I needed more time :)
The light was brilliant and it allowed amazing vivid reflection in water.
Great use of the snowy decoration. I see it was a couple of years ago. We had occasionally snow in recent days but it often happens on the working days...
