Reflections on the Tweed, a photo from Scottish Borders, Scotland

Taken on a lovely calm Spring day during one of my regular Wednesday walks with friends, this time heading along the right bank of the River Tweed towards Peebles. Hardly a breath of wind and I liked the reflections on the smooth water before it cascaded over rocks towards the little footbridge.

ISO 100, 1/250 sec at f/9, focal length 18mm.

Hello John,
It was a cloudy day, but the clouds are essentials parts of the character of this photo, and they contribute to the fine reflections just as much as the trees. The many fresh tones of green among the trees and the lawns show us what a pleasant day in spring this was. I like how the perfect mirror was suddenly shattered as the river approached the small bridge. Those small cascades bring a sense of motion to the general atmosphere of calm prevailing in this view, whose mild colours you captured in an excellent exposure.

Hello John, a lovely scene, one where I can almost feel that I am there too.
Very calm, the reflections are beautiful, and then the texture of the water suddenly changes and speeds up as it flows onwards.
The clouds , although grey are an essential part of the scene.
Beautiful natural colours. The bridge adds further interest, and a focal point.
A lovely place to walk.

Such a lovely and peaceful mood. It is a most charming capture of the river and the surrounding fields and trees full of appealing and fresh green colours of spring. They stand out well from the grey clouds. The composition is balanced perfectly.

Beautifully simple and simply beautiful! Great conditions to photograph a reflection, it looks like a perfect mirror. I love the colour of the freshly grown leaves. I must admit - you made me look out of the window at the trees nearby... only then I realised that your image was taken in May a couple of years ago, not last week as I initially thought. :-)

Hello John,

This is a beautiful, green landscape, surrounding the river and being included in the river, by the mirror-like reflections.
It is very well composed, the f/g tree anchoring the scene, the bridge strongly positioned and carefully linking the two sides of the river. I love the transition of the river from huge, still, reflective pool to rapid ripples, as moves swiftly under the bridge.
The sky may be cloudy but there is still a bright, freshness about the scene.
A very lovely glance at spring.

I wondered if this was the bridge that we crossed when up at Peebles but on investigation, the bridge I remembered was actually at Melrose. It was substantially different from this bridge!

Hello John

This photograph brings back some happy memories of a shared visit with you and others in this neck of the woods. Can't say I remember the footbridge, but the general landscape looks very familiar. Lovely soft light, and classic compositional sense! Is that parkland over on the opposite bank?
