Photographer's Note
I miss my Wednesdays!
One of the pleasures of being retired is that you can, within reason, spend your last few twilight years in this wonderful World doing pretty much what you want. And, for the last six years or so, one of my greatest pleasures was to go on country walks each Wednesday with a small group of equally ancient friends. Or I did until that most inconsiderate Covid-19 reared its ugly little head and we were all forbidden to leave our homes or meet up with others.
So as I have now little opportunity to explore and take photos, I thought I might, from time to time, upload some shots from one or two the little walks we have done in central Scotland over the years. And I can assure you all of these will most definitely be in the category of "nothing special"!
So here are a couple of photographs from late autumn 2018, about to set off on a cool and misty morning for a six or seven mile walk through the hills near the village of Coulter - you can see the location of the main photo at these co-ordinates: 55.581997, -3.533037 or click on Map: view and follow the little yellow man.
ISO 100, 1/1000 sec at f/5.6, focal length 32mm.
I'll add a couple more shots from this walk in the workshop.

Hello John,
As the older generation, I imagine that this virus has impacted less on us than on other parts of the population but, there are still massive holes in our lives. First, it is family and then lovely, social outings, like this.
Your photograph really tells a story.
Maybe this could be a metaphor for the present times.
The figures are walking down the path and heading for a mist, where nothing will be quite clear!
Your composition is, as always, impeccable.
The pathway is the thread, the men are the subject and are being guided from the sunlight into the mist.
The long shadows are an informative detail.
Keep safe,
Bev :-)

Hello John,
This is quite a lovely composition of the two men walking down the curving gravel road towards the trees almost hidden by the mist. In the autumn of 2018 there was still no need of social distancing, which makes the photo slightly nostalgic.
Your assurance that your photos will all be "nothing special" is a kind if guarantee of interesting photos, most likely with a human touch, and snapped more or less on the spur of the moment. That is what I call photography, much rather than views of dead buildings at the end of dead streets, which anyone could take.
I include the WS of the beautiful view across the fields in this "honour" category. The sheep totally make up for the lack of human presence, and the small cloud of mist is such a nice detail, captured probably just moments before it was gone.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello dear John, Delightful pictures, all three of them. I can well imagine how you miss these meetings.
It is difficult to believe but I have been retired for 17 years now! It is a wonderful time, I can do what I want, anyway, there is nothing I HAVE to do. I can travel when I want, without asking for a leave, I can decide in a few minutes to buy tickets when I see the good offer. I still can work, which is important for me, but I can always say no. Quite perfect. The only unpleasant thought is that it can end suddenly:(.
HAha, I have also my Wednesdays with my University friends, so as old as me. (My husband calls it Women's League). We go to the movies, and then to the cafe and we talk... And this has ended with COVID-19, of course. So now we still have our meetings but on video. But the idea of walkings online is not appealing, I suppose.
Lovely atmosphere, I like the sheep grazing and the guy lost somewhere.
I have read today on BBC that this coronavirus can stay with us forever.
Stay healthy MAlgo

Hi John
It's such a shame that although you live in such a beautiful part of the world, you are prevented from taking advantage of the landscape. To be honest I don't understand that ban on walking in the countryside around the place where people live - how is the disease going to spread in the middle of nowhere? I can go for as many walks in the fairly crowded (except for early morning) London parks as I want to and at the same time people living near e.g. Lake District are not allowed to go there. It's just ridiculous...
Anyway, the rant over, this is a lovely photo you treated us to. The mist in the distance is delightful, precisely the kind of weather I love to be out in and photograph. The two walkers add life and context. The WS photos are also very nice, one continuing the story started by the main image and the other one showing the breathtaking landscape you encountered during your walk.
Best wishes
Kasia

Hello John,
Isn't "nothing special" the motto of most of our lives?
But it gives depth to our highs and lows and is therefore invaluable and very worth noticing, but also difficult to capture in images because we often see it without observing it.
These three beautiful photos and your matching text show how important "nothing special" is in our daily lives.
Be careful and stay safe, Rob

Hi John,
A cool view of a morning with lingering fog and long shadows. Timing is just right before going through the opening on the fence. Direction of light is perfect.

Hello John,
I really hope that you will soon be able to resume your Wednesday walks again! This is a beautiful photo with bright sunlight in front of the fog, from which the trees and hills have gently started to emerge again. It must have been a beautiful autumn morning for a walk. Good composition with the road in the foreground framed by the bushes and fences on either side and the two men in the middle.

Hello John, three good shots that help to illustrate your Wednesday walks.
The main post introduces us to two of your friends as they set off along the track, hoping that the mist will clear.
The landscape is a winner with that little wisp of mist/ cloud stubbornly refusing to shift!
The green fields etc., could have been a main post for another day.
I like the third shot of a friend and the signpost, just the right picture for us to add a sppech bubble!
Keep safe, kind regards, Jean.

Hi John,I disagree on nothing special, the photo in the WS, for example, which shows the farm with so many sheep and the fading fog is truly delightful. I understand your feelings, that's what I live on Tuesday, the closing day of my bar, when I go to the fields hunting for butterflies ... ehehe ... and your main photo perfectly conveys this feeling. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hi John.
The Covid-19 has us many millions confined in the houses, I have been two months and want to extend until the end of June, so no future trip. I had a reservation to go in Septiem. to Uzbekistan but everything went ...
I can't even travel to a house that I have in the mountains.
This photo that you show us today has its charm, because the road and the green fields are seen in the sun, however a few meters further, everything is visible in the fog is a nice contrast.
Good management, both of brightness and sharpness.
Very well done. I like.
Enjoy the weekend.
My best wishes for you.
Luis
